Raquette River Workshop Route

Unread postby NorthernWarrior » Mon Sep 30, 2013 11:59 am

Firstly thanks to our host for allowing me to renew my membership here.

Now to business, I had great pleasure in creating a small route for the new Workshop feature, based on the Raquette River Railway in the Adirondacks. Reading through some of the posts it appears many of you have already discovered the route and I am delighted to see it receiving such good feedback. Just as a small update, the route has now received sufficient positive votes on the Workshop that I have been able to finalise it. This means anyone can create scenarios for the route and upload them to Workshop, I hope you do as scenario creation has never been my forte.

Looking forward to continuing in a positive vein with further route contributions (next one not quite decided yet) and helping out where I can.

Vern, it's a lovely route! Thanks for sharing it with us.

How does one obtain the new Raquette River Workshop Route? What page of the UI is it listed on?

Bob

Thanks for the pointer.

Ah, there it is...I really love the idea of Workshop Routes. I can hardly wait for the Workshop Assets Pacs to start showing up.

The Workshop UI appears to made no distinction as to if the items are routes or a scenarios. I wonder if we will get a filter option to work with when we are searching the 2k+ list.

Yes, the Workshop pane of the Collection screen could use the same filters as the normal Collection screen. Also, in my Railworks, none of the extra information such as author, required stock etc is shown. Later perhaps?

Are the requirements not shown in the tags at the top right?

Where exactly?

In the Steam Workshop screens, with a black background?
Or in the Railworks Workshop Subsriptions pane, which has a grey background?

I have subscribed to both Vern's and Bob's routes, and they appear only in Workshop section.
The don't show up in the normal Standard route selection.

Accessing the workshop stuff through its separate pane is cumbersome as the whole of my subscriptions appear to be parsed and checked again each time I enter that pane.
Also the download bar moves when something has been updated and you have to wait for it to finish before the "Next" button clears.

Well, those are tags, chosen by the uploader. Not necessary the exact asset requirements.

I think Steam and RSC should sort this out, to avoid confusion. And frustration now we cannot swap locomotives with RW_Tools anymore for the time being.
In theory, they know exactly which DLC I have acquired through Steam.
So Steam can either show me the stuff I can actually play, or entice me to buy that next piece of DLC to make that promising scenario work.

Time will tell how the Workshop evolves.
Use the Thumbs Up comments etc. to your advantage to praise good creators and the opposite for bad ones.
That will sort them out quickly I suppose.

They aren't chosen by the uploader, the tags were assigned automatically.

Well you still can of course, by unpacking the .ap file and thus having the folder structure just like before. But for some this would then create an issue with disk space.

Including the mumbojumbo?
I haven't uploaded anything so don't know.
Better leave it here, for when you study the description and comments, you'll usually find out what it needs.

Yeah, it just adds it automatically, there is no facility to add your own tags.

I'd agree it's not the most obvious way to find out the requirements, but it is correct and is always listed at the top.

It will get sorted over time. Hopefully before it is a complete mess.

If the creator pulls his route, scenario or whatever from the Workshop, my copy will get deleted when I next want to run that route or scenario?
