Terrain export thingymajig (Solved)

Unread postby emdsd90mac » Sun Sep 29, 2013 10:22 pm

So out of curiosity, I tried this new feature and it didn't work for me; it got some kind of crazy error and shut down. There isn't any mention of how to use it in the new manual nor is there a separate manual for this feature. I didn't see any other thread here either so I pose this question. How does one use this new feature?

To export track -- select the track geometry you need , Ctrl + C to copy and then Ctrl + Shift + E to export
To export a tile -- I turned the grids and then pressed 'T' to export

You'll find a new folder in the RW directory called 'Export' with the files inside.

Both worked as expected for me ?

Wow! That's a pretty cool option. It worked like a charm you all and again, thank you. I couldn't find any documentation anywhere on this so I had to ask.

What's the purpose of the feature?

The purpose of this feature is to make it easier for those creating assets for the sim; in 2013 and earlier you had to create the asset model and them import it into the sim and if your model textures didn't look good against the route textures then you had to go back and adjust/change the model textures. Now, one can export a tile of terrain and import it into 3DS Max or other 3D program and build your model to the terrain. Pretty cool idea and it can save a lot of time. In a nut shell that's it, but there is probably more to it as well.

Ah this is cool but the real question is can one import a tile thta was exported? Imagen being able to work on the enbackments in Max and then being able to bring that back into the game...... localized meshsmooth anyone?

This would be cool, but alas, the answer is no. But the tool is still important, giving us the opportunity in difficult areas to replace the RW terrain meshes with your own mesh custom built suit the site. Narrow cuts and steep embankments are now much easier to achieve. There are still some challenges to match the terrain texturing where your custom mesh meets the RW terrain mesh, but there are ways to disguise the joint.

Ola amigos! Sou do Brasil (portugues)
