Tunnel Lighting issues in TS2014

Unread postby Ericmopar » Sun Sep 29, 2013 9:47 pm

I'm getting flickering and brightness issues in Donner Tunnels and the Marias Pass Tunnels are positively glowing...

I decide to add these to show before and after update tunnel pics from Marias Pass.
All I get from RSC is the standard clear cache etc, which I've already done. Other tunnels and lighting are botched now as well in other routes, although Marias takes the cake.

This problem has also been discussed on UKTS and a tunnelocclusion file is thought to be the cause of the problem.
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=361&t=134037&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=tunnel+occlusion
It will get sorted soon when you report your findings to RSC.

I looked at the occlusion bins and the settings are identical to the 2013 tunnel occlusion .bins.
I contacted them, but got the standard reply, all of which I already tried. !*hp*!
I' ve got a backup I can launch and drive, and there isn't really much of a noticeable improvement except in Donner (sans Donner's tunnels).

Glowing assets usually mean a shader in the shapefile has been wrongly configured.
Perhaps since the move to .ap some dependency got broken?

RW_Tools no help when you unpack the whole lot of Donner and Maria and check the tunnel blueprints?

I didn't even know a person could do that.
Also: it's affecting all tunnels in all routes apparently. I know for sure it's affecting tunnels in Marias, Donner and Sherman. The guys overseas are also complaining about their routes as well.
That's why I think it's a game engine rather than route problem.

Also: I shouldn't say there isn't much of an improvement.
After running some scenarios, I've noticed that loading times are much better than with 2013 when V-Sync happens to be on. !!*ok*!!

Okay.... I haven't gone through a tunnel yet with the SD40T-2 on Donner Pass, but I believe you. I did a quick drive at Colfax at night with the SD40T-2 and boxcars. All my yellow box cars were lit up and were all lighting up the scenery as they passed. My train looked like glowing bars of gold going down the track. They need to fix this! !*not-ok*!

Right now you have me thinking of the 007 Theme song "Gold Finger".
BTW the tunnels don't seem to glow on Donner at night, only during the day...

Well I figured out why my boxcars were glowing. There was a long beam of light that would emit from my last locomotive into the boxcars. As long as the first 5-10 cars were in a straight line behind the locomotives, the entire train would glow. But once I hit a curve, only the first few boxcars glow and the rest of the beam beyond those cars would be out in the ROW... thus making the rest of train stop glowing. Also... it would emit from the front loco onto foliage way ahead of the train, as well as making the inside front of the cab glow brightly. And ALL of this was BEFORE I turned the loco headlights on.

This bright lighting was similar to Krellnut's lighting enhancements on the 10-packs, except this was an SD40T-2.

BUT....a reload of the quick drive scenario and things went back to normal..... then came back on the 3rd reload. I did a cache clear and it hasn't come back after a couple reloads. We'll see if it ever comes back. I did take some photos of this phenomenon. !*don-know!*

Some locos have their headlight functions in lua, and probably don't get properly initialised after a save and resume or after your computer wakes up from sleep or hibernation.

If it's a gold light on a DP SD40T-2 it sounds like the roof light is unusually strong. If you press "L" and turn on the rotation of the roof light does the bright gold beam move?

It's the platform lights I think and/or the headlights.
Sometimes it actually projects a shadow of the loco cab windows ahead of the train.
The cabs and cars don't seem to use any kind of light occlusion. The strange thing is, I never noticed this until 2012 updated to 2013. For me that part of the problem isn't new.

As one of the guys overseas I can certainly confirm I have the same problem. I like you reported it to RSC but only got the standard response despite chasing. Nearly 2 weeks on I would have hoped to see this one fixed by now as it is the only real negative I have found on TS2014 but is so bad it makes some routes unplayable. I don't have this bug on all routes though - I do on HSC, Settle to Carlisle and London to Brighton but not London to Faversham or GEML. So there is something strange there for sure.
