Head light flare

Anyone else get a pretty big hit in FPS with head light flares on especially when passing another engine?

Same here. It kills the FPS just like the cab and step lights on player or AI trains.

Probably will have to wait for all the DLC to be updated if that will ever happen. I was using the ones that come with Donner Pass.

Yeah me too.
On Donner, it makes my FPS drop from 70ish most of the time to below 60fps. Some people wouldn't care, but I like using V-Sync.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

70 to 60? My computer struggles to even run the sim with TSX on !*roll-laugh*!

Yeah... well... I like to use V-Sync and my monitor GPU combo gets terrible low FPS screen tearing. So unless I can maintain 60+ FPS I get boned graphics.

Looks like there are lights on even if you have them off maybe that is the problem? This happens with more than one unit hooked up.

I saw a comment from Matt P, on RSC's facebook page, saying that existing DLC will not be updated to have lens flare.

Well, RSC never has updated older assets, unless they were really broken.

How is the effect achieved in the first place? Some optical illusion rendered in real time by a DX call? Given it has apparently such impact on performance it is really worth it? In the rain, in the snow, at night? It seems to be applied only to the headlights, not to the ditchlights.

I don't like the soft fuzzy halo that surrounds the whole headlight for 3-4 feet diameter. That kind of effect is only possible in dry and freezing conditions when there are those tiny ice needles in the air.

To what other routes has the effect been applied? SP Donner Pass pales in comparison to the high-speed routes that are the default UK and Euro choices in TS2014 for new customers.

I've been trying out various locos and routes and have yet to even see the effect. Which ones have it?

I have only checked Donner Pass' GP9 and SD40T-2's.
It is supposed to be on UK's Kent High Speed as well, but I already had that route before TS2014.

It doesn't look natural - I don't particularly like it.

I have corrected a good many old Locomotive assets missing lighting issues by applying "Doc" Machinist's Lighting Enhancement Packs (LEP) and by following PapaXpress's guidance. I personally have gleaned valuable information as to how to apply "Shining" Headlights and Cab and Instrument illumination and Number Board Lighting using Child Objects in the .BIN blueprints file for a specific asset.

I assume that the new Head Light Flare effect uses a Child Object in a similar technique. I hope to understand it with further study. I appears that the effect is a representation of a translucent camera lens flare in 3D space that is placed in front of the actual glowing headlight lamp. Moving your vantage from side to side gives the appearance that the flare intensifies when looking straight into it.

That kind of makes it a pointless feature if there not going to update.
