TS2014: Steam Edition buy or not?

Unread postby Boldri » Thu Sep 26, 2013 2:24 pm

Hi all,

so update started right now, and I just realised that RSC added exclusive SP SD70 M to Donner fleet. !DUH!
I was decided to not buy TS2014 and just upgrade, because I got almost all DLC packs I wanted. I'm not interested in UK railroads and Hamburg to Hanover was planned to buy when price drop. So the question is: Is the SP SD70M and Hamburg to Hanover worth the money to buy it right now? What You think?
To be honest, I want to have Espee SD70 M in my stable, but I'm not so interested in other stuff of TS2014 Steam Edit.. !*hp*!

Wait, they will sell it as a DLC on sale.

I hope so, but right now it's only as included exclusive item.

There is a free reskin of the SD70MAC of the SD70 Vol. 2 in the file library of a SP SD70M. I too will buy the game to get this new model when it's on sale.

I was a bit disappointed they didn't do the cheap upgrade pricing this time around, so I'll probably try to pick up the bundle come the Winter Steam Sale - especially as I already have Donner Pass.

For what it's worth I bough the Steam version of Railworks about 4 years ago for $19.99 (I think) during one of their summer sale specials. Since then I've gotten free upgrades every time one has been released. My 2014 downloaded last night. While I've bought a fair amount of DLC since I got it I've never had to pay anything for a Steam upgrade.

My advice? Don't rush in...

Right now, there are a number of issues with the 2013>2014 upgrade - as the discussion on the UKTS forum (http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 1&t=133971) suggests. Best advice (imho) is to back up EVERYTHING before converting; the upgrade is transforming/losing (there are differing views) a number of asset groups. Certain capabilities have been (temporarily?) lost.

Upgrades are also SLOW at present; the new version seems to need to interrogate/reconcile scenario data (repeatedly in my experience) over the 'net.

It'll all sort itself out, I'm sure - but at present there are some very disappointed and confused UK fans. A more 'warts and all' presentation by RSC & Steam might have been advisable.

I'd give it a week...

Kind regards,

First let me say that everything I have tried so far runs perfectly for me. Second it has been announced that there will be a DLC for sale next week on the stuff that was included on the 2014 that we did not get with our free update. Some always have trouble.

Carry on.
