Along with a fishing game(I'll go for actual fishing

) Unreal Engine 4 will be taking over for the current game engine.

There's not much info, but what's there isn't very comforting for those of us with lots of content (commercial and free both). There's no promise of backwards compatibility.

S'cuse me?

Unless I'm reading this wrong, it's still not going to be backwards compatible. It will merely just let you use the old version for your addons.

It says that they will continue to support and create content "...for the current generation Train Simulator" and explore making the upgrade optional "...so you can continue to use the current generation product with all of your current add-ons."
Unless something changes, that reads to me as though the new UE4 version will not be backwards compatible.

He said that all new content for use with Unreal Engine 4 will be developed from scratch. That also implies no backwards compatibility.
That's normal in the gaming industry.
It just means making a backup of 2014 that is drivable.

Notice they made the announcement of DLC obsolescence
after the summer DLC sale.

that's really dumb-an either or choice-I want to keep my ts 2014 separately and get a separate install of the new game engine

What I think they should do and what seems most logical is put the launcher back in and let you select if you want to play the UE4 next gen or play the current gen.

Well you will as it clearly states. Sucks for third party devs because they will have to get their outdated products up to code and learn how. "leverage" was used as a clever term to put dtg in the driver seat until 3rd party devs catch up which may be months. But its encouraging they still want to release tools to devs. Its literally like starting all over again. I'm not worried.

I must be missing something where does it clearly state we can have both?

Whether or not you choose to upgrade to the next gen being the key sentence. You can obviously have two instances of railworks on one cpu I'm sure it won't be any different when it comes.
They wouldn't say that if itdidnt imply a possible legacy mode. Or just have 2 versions since its not a forced upgrade

Read a little deeper, this won't be happening for about 2 years. We are getting a regular update to 2015 soon according to the article in enginedriver. They still have to make the UE4 engine work in a train sim. So lets not get too carried away with doom and gloom until we know what is really happening. To me the article states that you can keep what you have now or you can upgrade to the new when it does come out. That sounds like one or the other not both. BUT, that is my interpretation, otherwise I know what you all know. Which at this point is not much.
