Nighttime ambient lighting

Hi! I find that the nighttime ambient lighting is so dark, that I don't find such scenarios enjoyable. Is there a way to increase (brighten) nighttime lighting? I did not find anything under settings or controls. Any suggestions? Cheers; Chuck F.

Chuck, I have the same problem and this worked for me. From the main menu, click Settings, then Graphics. The 4th item down is screen brightness. I set mine to 40 but you may want to experiment until you find your comfort zone.

Hi, Overshoe! Thanks for the info. While I had played with this feature in the past, i found that it washed out the daytime lighting. So, to use it, I guess I just have to return the brightness back to default, after running a nighttime scenario. Thanks, and cheers; Chuck F.

I hadn't thought of this before, but this might explain RSDL/Dovetail's wide use of omni lights throughout a route to brighten things up.

I had the exact opposite problem - I like a very dark night but when I set the time for like 01:00 AM and make it foggy then it lightens everything. So give that a try.

Yeah, I also had the opposite problem to the OP, which was a real bummer as I love near pitch-black night driving. But the Armstrong Powerhouse Lighting Effects Enhancement Pack fixes it. The attached picture shows Pacific Surfliner at the top (which isn't supported by the pack) and Marias Pass at the bottom (which is) each hour from midnight to 8 AM. Notice under the standard lighting, sunrise has already begun at 1 AM and it gets subtly brighter at 2 AM, 3AM, etc. The AP lighting is much more accurate.

Me too - I prefer driving in pitch black. That AP Lighting pack works great for that, and it's quite simple how it works- It just changes the values in the TimeOfDay blueprint, which can also be done manually. So if you wanted to lighten your nights, you could just edit these files to increase the RGB values slightly. The TimeOfDay files are slef explanatory, but there is a detailed decription of if on the old railworks wiki site, which is still valid:

I seem to have done a bit of work on this a couple of years ago - part of the problem with the older ToD files was the proportions of direct vs ambient light was way off, which messed up shadows. Given RW didn't have projected shadows originally that's not a major surprise though.

If anyone wants the ToD file I used here as a base for something to work from, I attached it.

Set up for the UK so you'd need to edit azimuth angle ( which is not apparently solar azimuth, it's gunlaying azimuth! ) and dawn/dusk times. Note also that the sun & moon turn on/off instantly, so don't go mad with direct moonlight... ( that was RW3/TS2012, not tried it with the latest one ). You'll also need to sort out your own sun/moon/skybox given this was in the B-E route.
