I know that this had been discussed but I can't find the thread. How do you shut off the career mode so I can play the new Empire Builder in Standard mode. Anyone?

Hi, Buzz. Technically, you can't "shut off" career mode in TS, just the scoring. Under "Settings" on the main page select "Gameplay" and change the "Score Career Scenarios" entry to "Off". The scenario is still a career scenario but you will not be scored and you won't be admonished for doing something wrong. I just did this today myself.
I haven't tried this, but you should also be able to clone the scenario, edit it in RW_Tools, and save it as a Standard scenario.
Hope this helps!
Marc

OK, I stopped too close to a red signal and of course it shut down after 50 minutes into the scenario. Grrr.

Did you turn off "End Scenario when SPAD"?

You can't turn off ending the scenario if you SPAD in a career scenario. Under the same menu as the career scoring setting there is an option called "Exit if Pass Danger Signal". This will allow you to play standard scenarios without the scenario ending if you SPAD.

I think if you clone a career scenario is becomes un careered. I believe I read that somewhere. Maybe by Harry Adkins.

I'm having fun going out of my comfort zone as it were and chasing down achievements, but yes, given some of the BS involved with the scenarios, they really should have continued the old method of packaging both Career and Non-Career scenarios.

I think that their logic is since they made the "workshop" that others will make "Standard" scenarios there and they don't have to make them themselves. Less work for them. Personally, I have never run a "Career" scenario and I hope never to have to run one. I enjoy TS2014 as a way to relax and have no need to be competitive with either the game or other gamers.
I will say "Thank goodness for the workshop and the great guys and girls who are making scenarios for it". I have over 400 scenarios and am so far behind that I may never catch up with it.

RW_Tools makes it easy to clone a CS to a Standard Scenario - but you still have to use the TS2014 to remove the strict timings and the inane comments - like "go and stand in the naughty corner for not stopping exactly 3 yards 2 feet 3.5 inches from the end of the platform".
Its easy once you get into a routine.

+1
I've only used workshop scenarios since the release of TS2014. The decision to make most of the scenarios career only in TS2014 was very disappointing to me.

Unfortunately it's the only way to get achievements. I like those, as they represent in a nice way (and with tiny images) that you have done something in the game, for example the Donner Pass achievement is nice, it shows you have actually cumpleted the whole scenario of over 3 hours. :)
