TS2014 Refuses to launch

Unread postby OlPaint » Tue Jan 07, 2014 9:03 pm

I am at my wits end...
Last night after puddling around adding headlights to several old locomotive assets. I tried to run TS2014 by clicking my 'tried and true' Railworks desktop shortcut. It would not launch Railworks. Period. I tried to launch TS2014 from the 'game list' inside Steam main program. I even tried to launch TS2014 from inside the C:/program files (x86)/Steam/Steamapps/common/Railworks/railworks.exe.

Each attempt to start and play Railworks gives the following error message window:
-----
Error
-----
ERROR: Unable to launch process
FILE: Utility.cpp
LINE:139
-----

I ran a "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" severval times. The first time of course it replaced all my mods and upgrades (some 2400+ files) that I so meticulously have added over the past. Each subsequent "Verify..." action said no files found or something like that.

I tried renaming the "Railworks" directory to RailworksOLD" and see if Steam would reload the basic game. But a "Verify..." failed to do anything about reloading my game. I got error "Failed to Start Game (Missing Executable)" when launching a game through Steam. Support Help FAQ gave this fix. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8676-EFLX-7453&l=english. I followed each step but alas still no success.

I set the RailworksOLD back to Railworks directory.

I manually launched LogMate and then tryed to start Railworks. But I get no log to visually show. And Railworks still refused to run.

Someone, please help.

Edit:
I just thought of an item... A while back Chacal suggested that we could launch Raiworks with LogMate, automatically turned on, by adding launch options command string in the Steam client.

-Quote
"-FPSLimit=30 -LogMate -SetLogFilters="All" -lua-debug-messages"

Add this to the launch options in the Steam client:
-LogMate -SetLogFilters="All" -lua-debug-messages

Or do like me, make a shortcut for Railworks, and use this as the target:
[your Steam path]\steam.exe -applaunch 24010 -FPSLimit=30 EnableAsyncKeys -VC -LogMate -SetLogFilters="All" -lua-debug-messages

Chacal"
-Unquote

I removed the launch option string and low and behold I got Railworks to start and run.

What a relief!!!

Was this the string you deleted?

Chacal

I remove both the launch options command string and the Railworks Desktop Shortcut command switch string.

It has solved my no launch problems. I wonder if Dovetail modified LogMate to prevent its use by us civilians?

No, works fine for me.
It is probably the -CV option that was making trouble.
This was a temporary fix, it is now deprecated.
I removed it from my post that you referenced.

Chacal

So I need to remove the -CV switch and it should work OK, Correct?

Would you mind writing the command strings out for both the Launch Options and the Desktop Shortcut? Typos are very easy to make.

Yes, especially since I typed "-CV" by mistake in my previous post...

So your "Railworks with Logmate"shortcut should have this:
[your Steam path]\steam.exe -applaunch 24010 -FPSLimit=30 EnableAsyncKeys -LogMate -SetLogFilters="All" -lua-debug-messages

Your options in the Steam client are OK if you want to launch Logmate every time you play, which I don't recommend because it is a performance hog.

That's why I usually launch RW with just these options:
-FPSLimit=30 EnableAsyncKeys

That's what I put in the Steam client, and in my regular Railworks shortcut.
You may want to test with and without the FPSlimit option, to see if it improves performance or not on your system.
