Hmmmm.
I don't know if I'll get an answer, but I asked over at the Railsimulator Facebook page, whether they are going to install the new game engine alongside the old one, or overwrite the old game engine.
It'll be interesting to see what happens.

This thread BTW is tame compared to what is being said elsewhere.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

It would be an overwrite, else a separate install. You can't expect to have two game engines side by side sharing common files. Too much work for all concerned.
Cheers!

I'm asking them, because a new game engine doesn't necessarily mean it will be designed to use the old DLC. It may require completely new DLC. In fact they already stated that everything would have to be done from scratch.
I'm hoping it'll get installed like a separate game, not as an overwrite.
Only time will tell though.
In the mean time, I'm not going to get to worried about it. It's some time away and I'm patient. It's an opportunity to get better graphics and it's a necessity, since Microsoft says they won't keep supporting the older gaming software.
It makes me wonder if that is the reason for Steam heading off towards Linux support.

Pure speculation on my part, but my gut tells me the change will mean a whole new game, thereby releasing them from the "free upgrade" promise of RW~through~TS2014.
Cheers!

well technically they don't have to start from scratch with models. say for example bnsf es44ac since rsc still have base model they can load it back up in to what ever program they use to make the model. then export it on new game code or blue print for new train simulator that useing unreal engine 4. and i hope what they learn over the years of train simulator like rain drop on windows and new assect tools and better route editor and weather they appy in new train simulator.. it would suck to see them take model and apply shadows and stuff and add no lighting for headlights or cab lights. they learn so so much over years. hope we see all the stuff they did in new simulator.

Models are the easy part. They can be outsourced if need be. The original KUJU Microsoft Train Simulator was a highly ambitious project for its time and despite it bugs, the core of it is the basis of the current incarnation of Train Simulator. To build something like TS2014 from scratch, even using an state of the art graphics engine and recycled 3D models, is an enormous task and I can't help feeling somewhat sceptical that a small software house like DTG can handle it. There is a risk that we might end up seeing a watered down version like Microsoft Flight, where a great but old piece of software like FSX was replaced overnight with a simplified, locked down version that no.one liked and ultimately became a big flop.

Fishing Simulator is a a smart plan to make a simple game that will generate sales and buy time, but I can't see a worthy successor to TS2014 taking less than five years to develop.

I hope I'm wrong.

TSX is simply a switch for enabling/disabling features supported/unsupported by various video cards. TSX on or off, there's nothing different about the underlying game engine.

All right. Enough until something more comes put. If anyone knows anything start a new thread.
