Everything in Store Free???

Unread postby MattW » Sat Nov 09, 2013 6:41 pm

Well the in-game store is finally working for me, but everything is listed as $0.00. That can't be right? Is there some kind of special deal going on right now that I somehow qualify for? If this is legit, I have no problems downloading all the goodies, but if this isn't I'm not taking advantage of this bug(?). To be clear, things like Berlin Wittenberg, Portland Terminal, F40PH. Stuff that in the Steam store outside of the game have prices attached to them.

It has to be some kind of error, I wouldn't try buying anything. I've never tried using the in game link to the store.

Sounds like a bug. The next Steam sales (and then not free!) are likely to be Black Friday followed by the Xmas sale, when I will be grabbing a few goodies (GEML and Surfliner for starters!) - assuming these are on sale of course.

I'd be happy to accept the $0 offer that MattW noted, but for me that just isn't the case:

Prices have now appeared so it seems they have fixed whatever it was. I hope they and the authors didn't lose too much money over this. While I and most people are probably honest enough to catch this and not take advantage of it, not everyone is unfortunately.

Just to bend the topic a bit, I bought the "Construction Site Scenery" pack (at $4.99, why not?), but there's no manual or even so much as a read-me file, so I can't figure out how to make those objects available for use in the scenario editor. The objects filter doesn't contain any clear reference to it that I can find.

Have a read here:

http://www.engine-driver.com/article/sh ... ace-part-1

You'll find the assets in the object set filter as RSC\MPConstruction01 (or something to that effect)

Hope that helps, I'm interested to see some screenshots of what people do with the pack - it's the first one and we have three or four more nearly finished packs around different themes, so it will be great to hear about what you liked, what you thought was missing, additional ideas for packs etc.

Cheers!

Hi Matt,

Something I've often thought about is packs of people. People for different places and time periods, with more variety of animations (not everyone constantly looking at their watches) and more realistic walking.

How about some nicely modelled and animated animals, to replace the static cows (remember the concrete cows in Milton Keynes?).

Cheers,

Mike

I would use it for scenarios.
For example, let's consider the construction pack as "temporary scenery", i.e. scenery that shouldn't be a permanent part of a route.
A scenario writer would use such assets to create scenes to add points of interest in the scenario, that may or may not have an impact on the scenario tasks. For example, a speed restriction could be imposed because of construction work.
I know that we can use a limited (I think) set of assets in the scenario editor (e.g. people, cars, etc). I don't know if we can add assets to that set.

That's exactly why I bought this pack: for use in scenarios. But guess what? Its elements cannot be accessed at the scenario editing level! Yes, I've done everything correctly as far as object filters go, but nothing from this pack shows up in any category of the scenario editor. Phooey!!!!!

Time for some hacking then.
We need to find out what makes some assets available in the scenario editor.
Hypothesis 1: there are separate assets just for the editor. We need to find them.
Hypothesis 2: there is a separate list of assets for the editor. This may be hard-coded or there is an xml list somewhere. First suspect is the asset database in Railworks/Content.
Hypothesis 3: there is a property in an asset's blueprint that defines whether or not it is useable in the scenario editor.
Hypothesis 4: 2 and 3 above -- the list is created by scanning all asset blueprints as needed.

Number 2 is more likely.
