v38.3a update coming in!

Unread postby _o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha » Tue Oct 22, 2013 12:16 pm

Now we are at version 38.3a all of a sudden.

Given the many problems with online requirements while playing with Steam offline, it was most due.

Lots of core files got updated, new gamemanager.dll, serz.exe, tunnel shaders and some more files.

Playing offline seems to work, but the Steam overlay is still live which makes no sense to me as the main Steam application window stays black and void.
The Steam application window shows an empty cached file ///D:/steam/steam/cached/offline-english.html, but when clicking the menu entries above, the "loading" gizmo spins yet nothing happens.

What browser is working in that overlay, is it safe and secure?

Makes me wonder how "offline" I am when I am off line? !**conf**!

Hopefully some other issues have been resolved. Will RSC provide some info quick?

All I know, is that I'm glad they are posting versions, and what is supposed to be patched so we can give them feedback on what is working and what isn't.

That isn't going to do much if no one tells us what they did since some are having all sorts of problems that many of us are not experiencing.

If you watch the start up screen carefully, you'll notice a line of status messages.
Apparently the program is assembling a scenario database and shop inventory on every start, probably due to the Steam Workshop integration.
Depending how strict the program parses the route and scenario folders for ticked asset providers, zero-byte files, etc. it could still crash or hang during this phase.
Occasionally it produces a memory dump after a crash.

I think we still aren't quite there yet as to seamless workshop integration. In certain circumstances LogMate.exe reports continually on train and drivers status update messages going awry, so I think the first foundations for multiplayer are also being laid.

Expect more updates in the near and not too distant future before a stable base has been reached. And then it is probably time for Train Simulator 2015. !*lho*!

It also checks for scenario conflicts with duplicate GUIDs. :D

What does it do with duplicate UUID's? I have seen scenario folders being pulled out of the .ap file store and put into separate folders by UUID, just like the old file structure?
Do the 'default' scenarios inside the route .ap file get updated by my playing them or just the copies in the separate folders, which often are empty since I have not played them yet?
I understand download Workshop scenarios will propably reside in their own UUID folder and have to be checked on each start for possible updates

For my linking, there are a quite too many options for things to go awry with this construction. Notice the recent swipes of complete asset collections during a game verification. ValveCorp/Steam really need to get this issue sorted and RSC needs to play open cards as to its intentions and effects of enforcing a certain asset base, with or without EULA.

So I still stick to my policy of having a virgin copy of Railworks with all the DLC I purchased in the Steam folder, and working copies elsewhere. Takes some housekeeping when something gets updated, and takes some HD space on separate drives and computers, but eases my mind as not all of my eggs (mods, hacks, repaints and more) are in the same basket.

Kid, you are working with otto at the other place, then you come back here. There is no fix cause it isn't broke. You have something wrong on your end and with out one of us exploring your computor we will never know what is wrong. Upgrading to 2014 then throwing your 2013 stuff back in is not going to fix it cause you no longer have the 2014 update when you do that.

If you start with a new install of TS and reinstall the 3rd party routes and there is still a problem, then it has to be your computor. Thats all that is left. We have no idea what kind of tweaking or hacking you did to your system to maybe gain more memory. I turned off a few things in program manager to make more memory available and some things started crashing. Some people run game programs that will turn of background apps, but some of those apps are needed for things you would never even realize.

At this point I have no further ideas to even tell you to try.

Bob's right.
The only thing I can add is to try changing your Steam server to another one. I have on a couple of occasions gotten corrupt files from my regular server and when I change it to another area, Viola, no more problem.
That is why some of us keep reiterating, that it's not always RSC's fault.

If you would do a little exploring, you would find it yourself a long time ago. How long have you been using Steam? From the top menu of the Steam interface where you play your game(s) from, Click STEAM, then SETTINGS, then DOWNLOADS. After you do that you ought to look at what else is in there so you won't have to ask someone when something else goes a miss for you.
