I need Help, PLEASE! [SOLVED]

Unread postby Whatzizname » Thu Jul 11, 2013 7:20 pm

Yesterday when i was using my ASUS UL/UZ Hybreed Laptop i had a random lag spike, i origionally thought this was nothing, until later when i ejected a USB, it ejected all devices, and now none of my USB port respond when i plug something into them, i ran the troubleshooter, and it says that there is a problem with the USB ports, so i let it do a check and it keeps saying "Device Software Not Succesully Installed"

So I need your help, if anyone here knows how to fix it, or has encountered the problem and fixed it, let me know, coz i really need to get this laptop back up and running, mainly becasue i use it all the time, and my parents will eventually get suspicious that i am avoiding using it.
May parents already know about the USB ports failing, my dad who encounters the problem sometimes said to unplug my laptop and leave it like that over night to let all the power drain from it (my laptop came with no battery)

so i did that and booted it up this morning, NO DIFFERENCE

so please help me

The only thighs i installed yesterday were:

Sony Vegas 8.0 Pro and UTorrent (mainly coz my interent is dodgy and i need a different way to download things)

If any of you can help please add suggestions, and PS i dont want to Format my PC, but if it comes to that i might.

Since this has nothing to do with RW I am moving it to Geek Speak. Good luck.

If you have the Windows disk, you can do a repair of Windows. I will presume it's Win 7. These days, since XP and later, Windows has the USB drivers built in. You can try the maker's website, look up drivers for your model of laptop and see if they have USB drivers. I suspect UTorrent may have something to do with this behavior.

Windows repair: (the F8-as-you-boot-up trick has never worked for me)
Boot up the laptop with the Windows disk in the drive. You may need to go into BIOS and change the boot order so the "D" drive or CD drive boots first.
Boot from the disk. Now go ahead and start the install. You will get to a screen that says "Install" in the lower left you will see "Repair Windows" click on that and follow all the instructions.
When it's done and wants to reboot, take out the Windows disk, reboot and hopefully all will be good.

Alright so i switched to my other OS (my PC has 2: Windows 7, and something that looks like a modded Windows XP) and it seems that the issue is only affecting my Windows 7 account, does anybody have any suggestions if that changes anything?

Changes a lot, makes a repair more difficult. Repair now has to sort out which Windows install it can/ should fix. I have never worked on a PC that has dual boot with two different O/S's, so I'm not sure what to suggest. I take it that Torrent software is not installed on the O/S that works fine?

I presume you do have the Win 7 disk? Then do as I outlined earlier, Win 7 should analyze the hard drive and figure out which O/S it can fix. If Win 7 doesn't or shows more than one O/S that it can fix, cancel the repair. You shouldn't have lost anything.

Oh, did you try and uninstall that Torrent software? Run Malwarebytes and CCleaner.

Well i do have a disk, but it is not for the Windows 7 i am using, it is for my brothers PC when we got it rebuilt, Dad is not letting me use the Disk because he is worried that the serial key wont work.

and the OS that dosen't have the Torrent Software is the one that works. So yeah....

And i Uninstalled the Torrent software, and did a full scan with Kaspersky Lab and i haven't got the results back due to it having to clean through 350GB of Harddrive, so waiting for the results

Malwarebytes and CCleaner will find different "stuff" than Kaspersky. Use the Registry tool in CCleaner, say yes when it wants to backup the Registry.

Tell Dad that Win 7 does not need a product key to do a repair, only a reinstall (or install). It should be the same "bit" as in 32bit or 64bit.

Oh, did you check on the Asus website in case they do have a USB driver available for the laptop? Might also try Windows Update, have it search for missing device drivers (usually doesn't work- that's MS for 'ya!)

Thanks for the info, i used my brothers disk without Dad knowing (I doubt he will find out) and lucky for me my brother also uses a 32bit system, sadly all my stuff has been sent back to defaults (except Chrome that stayed the same after reinstallation)
But that fixed it, Thank gawd

You have to have an Admin or Moderator lock the Topic. or just edit your first Post, and in the title at the end put "SOLVED!"
