Hi everyone, I am new to this forum. I am sorry if there is already another thread about this but I looked and couldn't find one. Anyways, I plan on getting a new laptop to run Railworks on, but the laptop that I want has Windows 8. I just wanted to make sure before getting that everything will run like a charm on Windows 8.

Thanks!

Mark

I have a new computer with Windows 8. After a few tweaks, Railworks works great.

Windows 8 works fine with RS2013. I just make a habit of not installing steam on the same drive as my OS.

BTW, if you have the option, get Win7 installed on your new computer. I REALLY don't like Win8.

You will find that most laptops have a tough time with Rail Works because of it's high video demand. Look carefully and get one with high end video capability or you will be disappointed trying to run RW.

This is the laptop I ended up getting, mostly because it costed a lot less and had better PC Specs.
http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-o ... on/A3F49AV

Specs-
OS= Win 7 Pro 64 Bit
Processor= 3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM Processor (2.3 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) When this processor has less GHz than the game requires it can boost itself up to 3.3 GHz.
Graphics= NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 650M Graphics with 2GB GDDR5 memory [HDMI, VGA]
Memory= 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Hard Drive= 750GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
Power Supply= 90W AC power adapter
Battery= 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Also has a 15.6 in display and beats audio. Sadly it won't come for a month but I think that it will be able to get the job done.

That's not bad, you mean this laptop can overclock? Never heard of it.

Yah! I have never heard of that either. I heard somewhere that it isn't good for the PC for it to be overclocking. So I am a little worried about that...
So do you guys think that Railworks should run pretty smooth on that? I'm hoping to get at least 25 FPS for an average frame rate.

The only thing you have to worry about with overclocking usually is overheating which we all know is a lot bigger problem with laptops than PCs. Because I got tired of listening to the fans I finally broke down and went with liquid cooling. It is awesome. However with a laptop you need a cooling pad to help. There are plenty of software monitors so you can keep an eye out to make sure your CPU isn't getting too hot.

There are several third party programs that will overclock just about anything.

You will want a laptop cooler pad for this bad boy, that lappy is gonna generate heat. Heat kills electronics. But, that is a nice looking laptop.

(Oops, Buzzy beat me to it! *!!wink!!* ) I use Core Temp to monitor the CPU temps, and CPU usage.
