So I start up my PC this morning and...............

Unread postby Importz2k1 » Wed Aug 15, 2012 6:00 pm

I get the message that my pc was shut down incorrectly (which it was not). I'm running Windows 7 btw.
It tells me to try to search for a solution, I did. Then it's telling me I cant fix and that I need to restore to an earlier date.
I restored back to 5 days ago, start it back up and my backround screen is gone, it's back to the default windows one.
Internet explorer icon is gone from my desktop, got it working again but now it wont let me pin it to the task bar. All my favorites are all out of order.
I ran an entire virus check (Norton) and it comes back with no viruses, just 60 or so tracking cookies. I did new updates aswell.

What gives guy's and gal's, this is the 2nd time in a month this has happened to me and I don't know why! It also just told me that it failed to configure 8 security updates and restarted itself.

Mine started trying to update but failed loads too and when i tried the restore option.

My pc became all corrupted to the point where it was useless, restore went all error code tastic, so did the windows updates go all crazy, my lady friend who is a pc code wizard even went wtf. so i made myself a new windows disk as my last one had some scratches, and done a re-install, activated windows and now im all good again, took a day out to set everything back up but it was for the best and had to be done, it was a pain in the butt to do it all again but its working again and this time everything seems to work fine and its updated itself just fine, At 1st i thought it was because i have a SSD and the way you set them up initially but i went in and had a look and all was fine, my best guess is my old windows disk was messed up or i messed up my initial installation (which I doubt).

took me 10 mins to install windows - it took the rest of the day to install all my other software haha, shame i cant just use steam to hold all my 3rd party software in their cloud, that would save me couple of hours of installs, which brings me to this question, will the new steam workshop hold files for you such as the complete ukts freeware packs so i can just reaccquire them when i log in to steam after a re-install?

The download issue might be a browser problem. What browser are you using?

Internet Explorer . Everything was fine until I restored the PC.
Should I re-install Windows 7 again?

Before doing that, I would try another browser first, like Firefox or Opera. It might be an IE issue.

Sounds like a stupid question, but is your internet connection working? In Windows 7, there should be a small icon in the lower right corner area of the monitor that shows the state of the internet connection. Another thought: could reinstalling Windows have damaged or even removed your internet connection software?

Good luck,

Good luck,

I'm on a network of 3 PC's and we all use IE, mine is the only one with troubles.

Figured I'd post this in case anyone ever needs it.
I ran the Windows 7 installation disc and let it do it's magic (3 hours), downloaded IE 9 again and low and behold "whala", we have a working PC once more! **!!bow!!**

I can download again, my task bar at the bottom is working again and when I click the start button (the white window that pops up on the left with all the programs) is no longer blank and has actual programs on it!

IM SO HAPPY! !*brav*! !*brav*! !*brav*!
