Can this be done? I have a 3.06 dual Xeon unit that presently has 4 megs of RAM installed.

Don't know why not, except that in going from 32 to 64 you will have to do a complete install of Win7, can't do just an upgrade.

I went from Vista 32 to Win7 64 with no problems. There is a utility that saves your system settings (though wtheter it will work from XP to Win7 I don't know), and you can pull your steamapps folder so you don't have to reinstall everything when you put RW back on.

Good luck!

I think this is what you want to know?

So yes, Railbard is right. To my knowledge, the upgrade function doesn't work from XP to 7,let alone from 32bit to 64bit.

And please also note, your hardware needs 64bit drivers so that you can run Windows 64bit.

Did I get scammed here? The file I bought was X15-65805. I tried to extract it and tried to install it. I got a temp error on the install and when I extracted it it says the setup file is not a win32 file.

This was the full not the upgrade supposedly.

Are you trying to install this with Windows running, because it won't work. You have to change the settings in the BIOS to "boot from CD". Then the installer will run. You MUST format that hard drive, the installer will do that for you. Once Win 7 is installed, it will reboot. Take out the CD and change the BIOS boot setting back to "boot from hard drive" (wording may be a little different).

Best thing is backup everything you want to save, as was said already, copy your "steamapps" folder, and I would copy your "My Documents" too. I also copy my "Favorites" (Firefox) so I don't have to hunt them down all over again.

There you go. Thanks. I'll try this over the long weekend. I have all the backups done, just didn't know how to do the next.

Let me know if you need help getting into the BIOS and/ or finding settings. Usually it's DELETE, start tapping as you power on the PC. But then you have to find the boot order.

Actually, I don't believe that's necessary, at least with XP it's not. You can leave it set to boot from CD first even after the OS is installed because if the BIOS doesn't find a bootable CD in the drive, it will automatically go to the next choice in the boot sequence, IE: hard drive.

Granted, that may have changed with Win7. I am running XP and I leave my BIOS settings like that. It may affect the boot time, but only minisculey (is that a word? !*roll-laugh*! ).

So it's a word only in my mind. !*roll-laugh*!

I did look it up in the dictionary (well, on-line *!rolleyes!* ) and didn't find it, but searching for the word did turn up other references to it as being used.

I can do that. *!!wink!!* *!greengrin!*
