Unread postby imnew » Thu Apr 12, 2012 5:03 am

Hi guys,

To those who dont know, Nvidia has released their newest beta drivers. Read info on them here:

http://rog.asus.com/100992012/graphics- ... rformance/

Note, my setup ( EVGA GTX 570 SC Version ) gained on average 4-7 fps in Railworks !!*ok*!! , have not checked out my other games yet.

Back to Railworks .

That is great news. Those 4 - 7 FPS. How many FPS in total are we talking about ? I mean did it go from 15 to 19 or from lets say 35 to 39 ?

They sure did. I did a test before and after at certain locations on my wip route, framerates went from 24 to 28 at one place and from 30 to 37 ! at another location. The test where run with the the 30fps lock off.

I just did the following test with the Oxford to Paddington Autumn Leaves scenario,

- With the old driver I checked 3 situations (A, B and C) 3 times.
- Installed the new driver, skipped installing the 3D Vision stuff.
- Shut Down PC.
- Start Up PC.
- With the beta driver I checked the same 3 situations (A, B and C 3 times.

These are the FPS results (shift-z):

What card so you have? Drivers produce different results on different cards.

Nice to see that these drivers increase fps in railworks. When one thinks of the strange way RW make use of our hardware, getting a small increase in fps ( from software )is a huge bonus !!*ok*!!

I hope y'all are using Driver Sweeper when you upgrade drivers. Even Nvidia and ATI recommends using it. Uninstall the current drivers using Add and Remove Programs (or Programs and Features) reboot and go into Safe Mode. Run Driver Sweeper and have it get rid of all the bits that Windows left behind. Now reboot, don't let Windows install any default drivers and install your updated ones. Probably one more reboot in there.

I'm gonna try these out. Thanks for the heads up! !!*ok*!!
