Anti-Virus software suggestions

Hello, I am getting a new computer from CyberPower and with it I'm starting fresh. My old laptop is way too far gone as a computer in general... For all of you who have lots of 3rd party addons and mods for their train simulator and their computer is clean, could you possibly help me out and suggest a software to get. I just don't want this brand new PC go to crap too soon.

I have used the free Avira for years on my wife's and my computer and have had no problems.

I too am looking for another AV/Internet protection scheme. I have used Norton for years, but i've decided to bite the bullet and pull the trigger on a other program. :)

I have used Kaspersky internet security on all my PC's I thinks it's the best. Payware though!

I put Spyhunter4 on my computer after I found it running mystery stuff when I wasn't doing anything and it found stuff never found by other virus and spyware stuff. It's payware but it's just awesome.

I've been using the basic Windows security program for at least 10 years. Never had a problem or virus on my desktop or laptops. This current desktop is 6 years old and still running a 2nd gen i3 and I download a lot of mods for my games.

I use ESET. I love it. It's always detecting things that are potentially harmful.

BitDefender for many years.
More importantly, I use DeepFreeze for protecting my C: drive against ANY change. With this I don't care about viruses, except for ransomware which could affect my data drives, which is why I still use the anti-virus.

Well honestly, yes. I pretty much stick to the same basic websites for everything: RWA, facebook, youtbe, email, amazon, ebay, some train sites for real and models, and motorcycle pages. Im a creature of habit.

I have been using aVast for free for years.

Free antivirus software does have a hidden price: advertisements.

aVast has bloated over the last couple of years with new " features " I never wanted or used.

For Internet browsing and email I use bolted down versions of Firefox and Thunderbird on Linux machines. I best try to avoid any Microsoft Internet Explorer, Outlook, etc. for their protection against malicious scripts etc. is much worse.

Any recommendations towards a free, but lean and businesslike, antivirus is welcome. Even a multi-seat fixed subscription price commercial one.

I don't use any. I have Windows Defender which runs silently in the background and every now and then when I think about it run Spybot2 of Malware bites. Windows Defender has blocked a few Trojans for me. I have an email filter on my ISPs site which has a white list and a black list. In the white list only emails approved by me get onto my computer. Unknown emails are put into a pending email box which have to be cleared by me, and if I don't like them they are put on my black list. If they try sending an email again it is bounced to the sender saying address unknown.

What are you using for your e-mail filter if you don't mind me asking? That sounds like some good stuff.

Been using Malwarebytes for a while and haven’t had a problem.
