Geforce Experience Has Left the Building. I Removed it...

Unread postby Ericmopar » Fri Sep 09, 2016 4:59 am

This morning, Nvidia forced a new version of GeForce Experience on me. It absolutely demanded I sign in with my Facebook, X Box etc account, at which point I said to myself, Enough Already!
I didn't ask for this, it just popped up when I tried to go into GeForce Experience. I had all the check box's for new versions of "X" unchecked, but it still downloaded it and put it in my face. !*!grrr!*!
This taking over our PCs has finally gone too far.
Microsoft has gotten away with it, now everyone in the PC world is starting to do the same thing. They always want an "account" made, with personal info that is nobody's business.
I'm simply saying NO to any more of this.

It's not just that, it's software that gets reinstalled by Microsoft like "Get Office" etc as well.
People can laugh, but this time the tin foil hat crowd hit the nail right on the head.

Do you have the home edition or the pro one?

I have Home x64, but it's irrelevant anyways Buzz. Microsoft has decided to take control of some critical things, even at the Enterprise level.
I'm glad now I didn't waste money upgrading to Windows 10 Pro after what I've been reading lately.

People are so mad at Nvidia now, and rightly so, because all this cloud based stuff and data mining are a huge security risk, that they are threatening to switch to AMD cards. Since AMD has gotten a lot closer in performance in the last couple of years, that is actually a viable alternative for some gamers.

I have to admit, I've been looking at new AMD cards recently, even before this scandal with GeForce Experience. The GTX 1070s I've been looking at are really nice cards, but they are price gouging like crazy in the retail stores.
As far as I can tell though, the new RX 480 is equivalent to a GTX 780 like mine. So it wouldn't be an upgrade for me.

After reading this I opened the GeForce Experience, and it prompted me to d/l the new one. NO access is possible to the existing one, that I can see. This is really too bad,as I just purchased a GTX 950 a few weeks back, and like it a bunch. I will remove the "experience",after this post.

It didn't even prompt me, it was already installed.
I had unchecked, as I always do, the little boxes that prompt the program to automatically update the software, but it ignored my wishes. That is one reason I decided to uninstall the program.

well I never saw the point of GEforce experience and never installed it. I like to tweak my games myself.

I can see your point Bob, but I was using Shadow Play to record Train Sim videos. Otherwise GeForce Experience wouldn't have been on my machine either.
Shadow play is one of the more efficient in game recorders out there.

Eric
I totally agree with you and GfE doesn't even support TS!
The offers that I hate are the ones that offer you x months "FREE trial" but want all you private details plus credit card numbers to verify your "free content". !*not-ok*!
If its free why do we need to verify anything? **!!bang!!**

I started a different thread where I mentioned Bandicam problems. I was considering using Shadow Play, but you can't with GEFX uninstalled. So I installed "Action",this evening, and it seems to do a good job with video capture. It has a free 30 day trial. If it continues to perform well, I will purchase it.

The only good thing about the GfE to me is making sure my driver stays up to date. Other than that it's totally useless.

I have never installed GFX. What does it actually do?
It isn't a tweaking app, IIRC.
I have a small tool for that, to finely tune AA and performance settings in other games.
It is my experience, RW is best left alone and let it set its own AA settings, etc. There isn't much to be gained given RW's old game engine.
Hardware supersampling using the VRAM leads to very small screen texts.

Where do you think all that junk mail comes from Trev? Or other intrusive strange emails?
It's DATA mining by companies that claim "We won't use or sell your personal information"
Since I started putting my foot down and not handing out my email when stores ask at the registor etc, I get about one junk email a month now.
It took awhile, but a friends "paranoid" advice worked in the long run.

BTW isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.
It seems to me a certain someone was complaining about mysterious issues with Windows 10 AU and black screens recently, in another forum.
After calling some of us paranoid in so many words, about some of Win 10s questionable updates...

Right up until NVidia screws up and comes with a driver that messes up your TS and you can't figure out what's wrong. I stayed with a older driver for quite a while because of crashing issues with drivers when they were in the 50 something series until they finally fixed my issue. My point being the latest may not always be the greatest for everyone depending on what you do.
