So if you read this article it is just not Windows 10 spying on you, they also mention Windows 7 and 8. Also things like smart phones, tablets etc are all spying on you. How do you think your smart phone or tablet knows where you are.

Via GPS. How other sites gain this info is another matter, and thus left to the consumer to weed out.

Omg, flogging a dead horse much?

Your phone tracks you via GPS, if it's enabled, and by where your wireless signal is coming from. A friend of mine has a brother who is serving life for pasteing his ex-wife. Part of the evidence was that his cell phone signal pinged a tower near where the body was found.

Worried about Windows 10 spying on you? Let me just send you right over the edge. Your TV has sound recording capabilities that can report back to the manufacturer. Red light cameras, road side cameras, cameras in every store, restaurants, and gas station you visit. Cameras on the phone of the little punk across the aisle who is pointing it at you right now. Google Earth cars, planes, and drones. Don't even get me started on the DOD! Visiting a website? Your IP address can be pulled by the website admin and traced back to you - email too. Think you're safe with Encryption? The DOD, nor Anonymous, gives two passes of the wind about that stuff. And you do pay taxes, right? Sending vital information about yourself, on a yearly basis, to a poorly funded and run organization that is rife with information leaks?

When Skynet comes online and the T-800 shows up at your door, it's a good bet the thing got your information much more easily from public record than the servers at Microsoft. And BTW, what have you got to hide anyway?

Three daughters for starters.

I prefer to restrict my/our personal info as much as practical. I don't need some stalkery teen pulling geotagging data off an uploaded picture because some IT guy thought it'd just be soo convenient to include. Otoh, they're all first degree black belts and learning to shoot because, safety first y'know.

The unfathomable need of people in modern society to blog and broadcast the minutiae of their lives is bad enough without all the hidden features that put it out there without regard to security.
