Problems with new 960

OK so I get this fancy new card and install the driver for it which is 361.94. My main screen which is HDI has a problem. I usually go with a black background. It looks kind of a washed out gray. The game sort of has this same washed out look. After a lot of fiddling around I switched the properties over to Use NVIDIA settings and fiddled there. Nothing seemed to change much until I just moved the Digital vibrance slider just the tiniest but and BOOM colors were all back to normal. Happy dance ensues and all is good.

Got up this morning and back to the same issue. Fix works again. Less enthusiastic dance this time as I'm reasonably certain this isn't going away. Any thoughts gang?

What about adjusting the settings on your monitor.

HDMI is meant for television output, and has a different black level compared to DVI and VGA output. Pure black and pure white are mapped to a different output level.

Open the nVidia control panel and look for Change Resolution in the Display section.
Under
3. Apply the following settings.
there should be a drop down list "Output colour format"
Set that to RGB or YCbBr 4:4:4
And set "Output dynamic range" to Full when RGB has been chosen

You do have sound coming from your monitor's speakers using the HDMI single cable connection?

I meant HDMI. Didn't read my own typing. And no messing with the monitor setting s didn't fix it.

I have a dual set also HDMI and a DVI (2 Samsungs). Even though I have the HDMI set as monitor 1 in the nvidia program, it always boots to the DVI first then goes to the HDMI. My blacks are black however and I did not fool with any of those graphics settings for colors. I beleive I have the latest drivers also. I get a notification when there is a new driver and have been updating as they come out for Win 10. Is that the newest driver for you that came with it?

I guess that the card is seated correctly? Wiggle it and make sure it has clicked in.
Is it in the correct PCIe slot?
What have you set in the BIOS wrt PCIe?
How many HDMI ports? Have you tried others?
What HDMI cable did you use?
One that came with the monitor?
Are you using the Windows native resolution?

Faulty Card?

(Bob 361.94 is the very latest NVidia WHQL driver)

Yes I am using the native resolution and as to the rest of it it's the same as the other card. This isn't my first rodeo so I checked all the other stuff before I got on here. The driver I have is supposedly the newest for win7.

Sorry, I knew that you would be au fait with changing the card, but I was just giving a check list just in case anything was forgotten!! *!embar*! !!*ok*!!

I guess you have checked the psu and have got the correct molex connections to the card?
Some GTX 960's had a supplementary power supply direct to the mobo as well as the psu's molex connections???

The HDMI cable is important in that it needs to be right for both the card and the monitor.
Have you got another cable to try?
Or a DVI cable if you are not using any sound to your monitor.

It sounds more and more like a fault in the card????

Hope you get it fixed.

Some versions of Nivdia drivers have that bug.
They won't remember to use the Nvidia settings between bootups.
You may have to try an older driver Buzz. I'm not home right now so I can't look up my particular driver.
BTW what you are describing sounds like the gamma is too high.

Yup. It seems to be stable all day today (home with a cold) after taking Edwins suggestions. We shall see what morning brings.

Oh yeah, the HDMI settings being wrong will most definitely mess with the colors.
I just meant to throw out some additional possibilities.

If the current driver still has problems remembering to boot with Nvidia settings.

You could try 340.750.
Assuming you aren't using Windows 10.

What's it like using the DVI cable. I have heard that there is no difference in quality between using a DVI cable or a HDMI cable. I'm using a DVI cable on my HDMI capable monitor.

http://www.itpro.co.uk/monitors/24842/h ... t-av-input Basically the only difference between the 2 is HDMI carries sound where DVI cables don't.

To be honest I never really noticed and difference. Don't even remember why I tried it in the first place. I guess it's because it was there.

In any event with the changed settings it appears to be problem solved. As far as HDMI being just for televisions that's not completely accurate. At one time Dell was recommending that if your card and monitor were both capable then the HDMI cable was best. Since then most are saying unless you want to send audio to your monitor there is no purpose.

I beleive cause HDMI can transfer more data faster. Wider bandwidth?
