Problem with 3D Canvas 7.0.2 again

Unread postby SAR704 » Sat Nov 07, 2015 4:17 am

I decided to free up some space on my pc earlier today, and this involved deleting a lot of unused stuff (mainly games, but the odd other program which I haven't touched for ages). Unfortunately, I think I may have deleted internet explorer from the programs and features tab.

Whatever I did, it's causing 3DC to bring up a message saying "3d Canvas requires Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer to run." I'm not sure why it would require this, but nonetheless, what do I do to get it to detect IE and subsequently run again? I'm even thinking of reinstalling Windows as a last resort.

@SAR405 - you need to go to the Microsoft website and search for the version of IE that you want to install. Depending on your current version of Windows (I use Win10...) you can select IE11, the latest, or you can search for another, older version for your system. I wouldn't recommend using a version older than 10 as older versions have more security issues. Here's the link for IE11 (this is not an active link, but copy and paste into a search engine):
windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/download-ie
Hope this helps!
BTW - what browser are you using to access the forum? I use Firefox.
Best, !*cheers*!

Forgot to mention that when I go to install IE 11, it says setup can't continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is installed on your system. This is strange, as obviously 3DC doesn't recognise it still. I use firefox for the web.

Tried uninstalling, restarting and reinstalling, and it still gives me this message. Is there any way at all to fix this that doesn't involve reinstalling Windows or upgrading to Win 10, so that I can proceed with my route project? Obvious IE isn't in the right spot. I have no idea how to add it to programs and features. Would this help if I did?

There is a really nice program out there called IObit uninstaller that will uninstall all traces of a program. It sounds like there are some bits and pieces of IE hanging around that you need to get rid of before you can load the new program.

I gave that a try following your suggestion. However, it didn't display IE, and looked to be a bit strange to me (too much promotional stuff), so uninstalled it.

The problems you are describing is one of the multitudes of reasons why I dumped 3DCrafter in favor of Blender. It is a terrible program to have to deal with on a day-in day-out basis, and a resource hog as well. The final straw for me (v9.1) was an issue where the program would not allow the Pro licence key to load, so I could not use the advanced tools. The only way to enable them again was to uninstall the program, remove each and every reference to 3DCrapter from the registry, and then reinstall the program and all it's tools again. A few days or weeks later I would have to do it all over again.

The best thing you can do for yourself is chuck 3DC and move to Blender. If you have been building and exporting objects to the game in 3DC, then it is not much more of a stretch to learn Blender. I went from a Blender N00b to the finished U30C in 10 months, including the beta test period.

I am grateful to 3DC's creator for it - I created Assets and Locomotives for four years using that program. But there really are better alternatives out there now, and barring some real improvement, 3DC has no future modelling for TS.

I only use 3DC to export the model to TS. The actual construction of the model is done in Train Sim Modeler (an early MSTS program). I can't really dump 3DC as there are finished objects in TSM that I may want to export to TS some time, such as major buildings that took ages to build, including one that took me over a week at least.

3DC can be a pain in the butt, but it's the only program that can import TSM models. Blender is a different kettle of fish to me, and I don't even know how to export a model in it (can't get the BigEX exporter to show up). The texturing aspect of it seems arduous, and I just don't like really like it. It's just the hiccup from yesterday that I need to try and undo. The system restore function doesn't have anything from earlier than yesterday, and it usually fails anyway.

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure I removed IE from the programs and features menu, but I don't know how to reinstate it. 3DC obviously looks for it in a specific spot, but I'm not aware of exactly where this is unless it's programs and features.

I wasn't aware that 3DC required IE until I removed it from P&F
