Thinking of a New Computer

Instead of creating a new topic. I'll finally got around to doing more research on my next PC.

This is what it looks like so far

AMD Athlon X4 750K 3.4GHz (Quad Core)
16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866MHz
1TB 7200 RPM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 2GB


The only thing is I not sure of the ram should I get the slower or faster one? Also do you think it will be bottle-necked by either the cpu or gpu?

The 960 will be coming out soon and its using the 970 bus.

You cannot bottleneck (except indirectly) RAM with a gpu they have very little to do with each other, however you can bottleneck the cpu with the gpu and vice versa.
IMO your cpu won't be able to feed data fast enough to the 1866MHz RAM to realise its full potential so 1300 low latency would work equally well.
This a fairly cheap cpu ($75 on New Egg) which may work fine with TS2015 but it will always be on the limit of what it can do.
But with computers if it works - then just use and accept it.
I have found with experience that intel cpu's handle TS2015, FSX, P3D, X-Plane "better" than their AMD counterparts but then they do cost quite a bit more.

The other processor they have listed is the AMD Athlon X4 760K 3.8GHz. My budget is about $1500. The way I see it is I can always upgrade the "insides" later if I want to.

You might want to read this.
TS is only a single core game. Most games are single core, so a fast core is more important. Given the current state of CPUs you'd be better with a Haswell i3 and then you can get a i5 or something later that will work on the same motherboard. It all has to do with Instructions Per Second, not entirely the clock speeds of the CPU.
Don't go by overal benchmarks, because those tests use all cores, not a single core. You want to go by single core performance ratings and in this case the i3 is far faster.
I almost forgot to add; While non K versions of intel processors are locked, a good Mobo from a company like Gygabite, MSI, Asus etc will usually let you bump up the Turbo Boost speed.

This is not strictly correct - it does use all 4 cores in a quad core cpu - albeit Core 0 (cpu the major usage up to 90% on occasion but cores 1, 2 and 3 (cpu 2 - 4) also have quite a bit of activity up to 50% on occasion (measured with Logitech G19S and a Pertelian).
True it is NOT a TRUE multicore program - not many games are but it can utilise multiple cores if they are present. TS2012 had an option to use "multicore", and when it was "dropped" for TS2013 - I wrote to RSC, and they replied that it was no longer necessary as it utilised what cores were present without having to have a setting in the game.
Now, whether a multicore cpu is faster than single/duo core machine wrt TS2015 is another matter, but usually the quad cores have higher cpu speeds, and can access faster RAM, and have the oomph to service more powerful video cards without being bottlenecked..
I agree the faster the cpu the better and IMO the Intel GHz is quite different to the AMD GHz and I agree that an i5 or i3 will run TS2015 quite well, but they will more expensive than $75.

I was thinking in terms of... A current Haswell i3 is a little more expensive than what he's looking at, but a better bang for the buck.
Also that i3 has been tested by gaming outfits and they think it's the best deal for a inexpensive gaming CPU, especially since it supports 2 additional virtual cores.
In the real world that i3 is probably close to a CPU with 3 physical cores in performance.

Can your budget stretch to an SSD? I've no idea how much they cost now, but probably less than when I got mine five years ago. Well worth it IMHO.

The GTX 970s are just about on par with a GTX 780, but with much lower heat output and lower power usage. Nvidia has said that the new generation of GPUs were going to concentrate on power efficiency and cost vs performance.
The only advantage the GTX 780 would have, is it's a known reliable performer. The 970 is new and unproven, although Nvidia's reliability has been great the last few years.

GTX 970 and GTX 980 cards are monsters I had to upgrade my GTX 670 when i got my Oculus Rift DK2 a couple weeks ago. Get a GTX 970, you wont regret it.
