Nvidia control panel

Unread postby Haystack » Sat Dec 08, 2012 2:28 am

I just got a GTX 660 and was wondering if anyone had any tips for me on the best settings in the Nvidia control panel for TS2013?

Do a forum search. Someone did a page on optimising Nvidia cards for RW about 6 months ago. It made a HUGE improvement for me.

Thanks for the reply. Are you sure it was on this forum? I did a search and didn't see anything on optimising Nvidia cards for RW.

It may have been on Trainsim.com, or UK-Train.sim. Try Googling it and see what you find. Whoever did it had spend days testing all the variable of the Nvidia control and came up with a clear winner, which was then tested on the forum members varied computers and proven to be an all-round winner.

My laptop is configured with Nvidia graphics adapter but sometimes it throws error when I used to run some cruical softwares like MAYA, MATLAB, catia and much more. It sometimes interrupts my gaming applications. Do I need to upgrade it or what else? What Direct X means in terms of graphics?

Fear Before
The majority of those links are for TS2012 and there were some changes in TS2013 that may or may not respond to the 2012 settings.
For best results I use nVidia Inspector plus nvidia control panel setting high settings AA/AF/Supersampling etc and choosing FSXAA and 'enhance the game settings'.
I also set up adaptive vsync using 1/2 monitor refresh rate (setting nothing in TS2013 wrt fps).
Then after setting the above I finally open Nvidia control panel and choose 'Adjust image settings with preview' and tick 'Let the 3D application decide' and that gives me best results.
In TS2013 I use TSX mode on /off depending on how I feel,
AA FXAA + 8xMSAA
Texture Filtering: Anisotropic x 8
Rest High, very high or highest detail except:
Shadow Quality Very Highest or off
Adaptive Bloom off
DOF off.
I have also found using an injector app called SweetFX + the configurator gives some exceptional visual results with good solid frame rates: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/swe ... nload.html and/or http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/23364
the configurator http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/
This is the blurb from guru3d:
Effects included:

* SMAA Anti-aliasing : Anti-aliases the image using the SMAA technique - see http://www.iryoku.com/smaa/
* LumaSharpen : Sharpens the image, making details easier to see
* Bloom : Makes strong lights bleed their light into their surroundings
* HDR : Mimics an HDR tonemapped look
* Technicolor : Makes the image look like it was processed using a three-strip Technicolor process - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technicolor
* Cineon DPX : Makes the image look like it was converted from film to Cineon DPX. Can be used to create a "sunny" look.
* Lift Gamma Gain : Adjust brightness and color of shadows, midtones and highlights (avoids clipping)
* Tonemap : Adjust gamma, exposure, saturation, bleach and defog. (may cause clipping)
* Vibrance : Intelligently saturates (or desaturates if you use negative values) the pixels depending on their original saturation.
* Curves : Contrast adjustments using S-curves.
* Sepia : Sepia tones the image - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sepia_tone#Sepia_toning
* Vignette : Darkens the edges of the image to make it look more like it was shot with a camera lens. - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vignetting )
* Dither : Applies dithering to simulate more colors than your monitor can display. This lessens banding artifacts - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dithering# ... processing )
* Splitscreen : Enables the before-and-after splitscreen comparison mode.

You can find new releases of SweetFX in it's thread on the Guru3d forums :
