I have a MSI and think it's a wonderful machine but there are a ton of choices.

If you want bang for the buck, get what I got or with a different config than mine ...the HP Omen line......

Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ (2.6 GHz, up to 3.5 GHz, 6 MB cache, 4 cores)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 (6GB GDDR5 dedicated)
16GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (2 x 8GB)
2 TB HDD + 128GB SSD storage
17.3" diagonal UHD IPS UWVA anti-glare WLED-backlit (3840 x 2160) w/G-Sync

Normally $1,599.99......currently selling for $1,349.99

This next one is the config I bought....

Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ (2.6 GHz, up to 3.5 GHz, 6 MB cache, 4 cores)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 (8 GB GDDR5 dedicated)
17.3" diagonal UHD IPS UWVA anti-glare WLED-backlit (3840 x 2160) w/G-Sync
16 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB)
512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD

Normally $1,799.99...... currently selling for $1,499.99

It's says it's 2133MHz speed RAM, but it must be a typo cuz mine came with 2400MHz RAM. How many GTX 1070 laptops have you seen in this price range.... let alone with a 4K w/G-Sync display, 16GB memory and an SSD drive? That's why I got it. !!*ok*!!

Since we have no clue what TSW is going to require when the 'real' version hits that's kind of a hard question to answer. If I were you and not in a huge rush for other reasons I would hold off until we see how the performance is on the new sim before I did anything. The beta was so dismal as far as performance that I wouldn't even buy it. I have a fairly high end machine and like I said the performance was not acceptable to me.

The Pavilion line is HP's entry-level to lower mid-level....the Envy line is their upper mid-level to high-end and the Omen line is their gaming computers. Their "Z" line are 3-D CAD workstation laptops. So I don't expect your Pavilion to do particularly well in TSW regardless of the improvements DTG makes to it in the coming months.

You shouldn't use TSW's current or potential performance as your only consideration unless it's the only thing you plan to run on your new laptop. You could just get a GTX 1080 based laptop if you want the best GPU available to tackle TSW. But the lowest priced laptops based on it are in the $2700 range. I'd go with the GTX 1070 as the sweet spot. It has 64% better performance and 2GB more VRAM than a GTX 1060 for only about $150 more.

Also keep in mind that a lot of TSW's problems appear to have to do with the heavy physics calculations which is a CPU issue and not the GPU. Since people with powerful i7-6700K based computers are having the same issues as everyone else, any laptop you pick will likely have performance issues no matter what you choose.

Unless you want to wait around another 9 months for Nvidia's or AMD's next-gen cards, just get the most powerful gaming laptop you can afford or are willing to pay for in the next few months. Otherwise you are gonna be on the sidelines hearing about TSW on the forums instead of playing it yourself. *!greengrin!*
