NEC knicking and knacking

Unread postby styckx » Thu Aug 25, 2011 10:02 pm

Now that this is out, I have started redecorating, and redoing sections.

Note: Not complaining etc etc about RSC's job on the route. It would silly to expect them to really get this nitpicky. This is fun for me and just kind of making the route "my own" as I'm familar with a bit more of the scenery.

I started with Hamilton Station.. By extending the platforms and installing the car park area. Gotta fix the extended platforms level, to the terrain out and cut them back a bit. :)

Hmm, I need to figure out how to work the route editor. A couple issues near 30th St are bugging me. Probably wouldn't notice them if I didn't drive the Schuylkill at least once a month...

They really aren't issues. If RSC were to model this brick for brick the entire community would be pitching a fit that RSC got 5 miles of scenery done in 6 months. !*cheers*!

I'd probably get fired for never completing anything and just abandoning projects out of the blue. !*roll-laugh*!

Wish the "Sure-Kill" had that traffic pattern. Where is the over-turned tractor-trailer and car fire at the 30th Street on-ramp *!greengrin!*

Well I plan to go down the whole route. Will only be using whatever default assets are accessible with the route. In the off chance this is somehow distributable. I'm probably going to rip Hamilton up completely and redo it. Then move on to Princeton Junction, Trenton, boogie on up to Elizabeth after that. Princeton I'm playing with the idea of finishing the dinkie line. Won't be touching or modifying already laid track though. Don't want to ruin scenarios. Been waiting for a fun route project for ages. This will be it.

To someone who knows the NEC first-hand, are there mile markers on this route in real life?

On the cat poles for sure.Top mile marker, bottom cat pole number. Now from everything I know, which is vague in facts, there may be signs planted along the route away from public view. I've also seen pics of mile markers on a platform, and handle written on various places.

From my understanding on the NEC they aren't for drives but maintence crews to find bad track, broken train etc.

Found a couple pics, even the stone/metal/concrete one I remember seeing when I read about this before.

I have 2 questions about the RSC NEC:

1. Have they included the Hi=Line that runs past 30th St. Station on the west side near 31st St?

2. How far south of 30th St. Station does the line go?

For what it is worth, I put the German ICE in 30th St Station, and drove it north. The AFT works fine (calibrated in km/h). The only thing weird from a graphical level was that the pantograph was set too low.

Once I got to a straight section, I pushed the AFT all the way up to 300km/s (186mph). While the ride seemed a bit rough, it did work. I eventually got blocked in Newark by other trains on the track - I guess I need to edit the scenario and delete them *!twisted!* .

It doesn't take all that long to get from Philly to NYC when you go this fast..

Yes, the Market-Frankford El is in game. It extends south to roughly where the line would go underground, and north it extends about halfway around to loop for the Airport line and maybe a mile or two for the other two SEPTA R lines.

Just for grins, I drove south on it, and there were some interesting quirks. For one thing, no catenary, so you lose power to the locomotive when you start to go up there (make sure you have some momentum to carry you up and over). Maybe that's to be expected *!greengrin!* . The track seems to go right into the side of a building where it ends right where the building starts. And when I was up there, the train cast a shadow on the ground, but the track didn't - perhaps TS2012 fixes that little nit.

Interesting choice of colors in the billboard on the platform... aren't those the same colors as some famous soft drink... uhmmm.... can't think of the name.... *!!wink!!* I bet some freeware repainter could further Americanize the route with some true logo advertisements since he wouldn't have to license them....
