J611 at Saluda.jpg
I've been working on a new J for some time, and I've been hesitant to mention it for fear of not being able to deliver it. Seeing the preview of Railfan587's video, "Norfolk & Western 611 VS. The Mountain Of Challenge" prompted me to make my work public here. I'm facing some challenges, and I'll need some help with them as I go along. Hopefully, I can get the help from the many great RWA forum members. (I've been a member for a while, but haven't posted much. When I do, I usually stick my foot in my mouth.) I've attached a screenshot, but remember, it's far from finished. There is no sound, very little physics, no cab, and the tender is only a shell. For anyone who is interested, I'll try to post updates. And, I'll be posting questions about the issues I'm having. My intention is to release not just the 611, as restored, but the line of J's starting with 600, including the unstreamlined J1, through to 613. It's far from perfect, but I'm trying to represent it as best as I can.

It would be nice to have a "completed" one with a floor.

May I ask if this is a "new" model,or a shell piggybacked on an existing running gear? At first I thought it IS the one posted in the aforementioned video. Then you posted it is your creation. Either way,I look forward to your progress.

This is a completely new engine. I created a 'J' for MSTS some years ago and had initally thought of using it as a starting point. But I decided to start from scratch on this engine.

I appreciate your response. As someone who has lots of video of the 611 when it was in Ohio, and Kentucky,I applaud you on you efforts. Besides that,a part of the N&W Scioto Division is being "modeled",on my mega Ohio route.

Thank you, mikeadams2k!

I will be watching this closely. We have been needing a more accurate N&W Class J, and as it's one of my favorite locomotives, I'll certainly want it once it's done.

*!!thnx!!* !*salute*!

Thank you for your interest!

I've posted a video in the Video thread, demonstrating the animated Baker valve gear and wheelslip.

Darlan (DSGDDR) could certainly help you with finishing this engine as well, he also does locomotives for the sim.

I got asked about the progress on the 611. I've been working on the tender the last couple of days. Still quite a bit left to do, mostly detailing and the cab. (The rear platform of the tender will be redone.)
