Empire State Express wip for Railworks.

Here's a new project I've been working on for Railworks since late two months ago on sketchup. Hope to at some point get it finished and uploaded, if I do upload it it will be freeware.

As of right now, there's good chance I might not be able to get it into the game. I am still a beginner modeler, and haven't got a engine in as of yet.

Also, I will have to somehow get the old Rail Simulator Developer Tools because my Railworks tools are broken and I just can't get the blueprint editor to open any more.

I will be importing this into Blender, and hopefully from there get it into the game. If I can get it in it will have full custom sound, engine, tender and a full 3d cab.

Any cab pictures of the real Empire State Express would be greatly appreciated.

I do hope to be able to finish this one, and then start on the Commodore Vanderbilt for the second time and hopefully not have it terminate itself again.

I had started on the Commodore Vanderbilt on 3d canvas, until something went bad in the file.

I must say, I'm a little better at modeling trains then route building, I started out modeling trains, but something always went wrong in the file, perhaps that was because I was using 3d canvas.

Awesome. !*brav*!

This looks so good. I never thought that one can make such a great model in sketchup.

Some questions: The cabview is an extra model right? Must be otherwise it won't work?

Blender also works for exporting from sketchup? I only knew 3DCrafter (Canvas) and studio max can do it.

Ambitious .. give you +Rep for havin' a go !!*ok*!! !*salute*!

Will also send you some stuff , we start here >

I first got this link .. If ya don't already have this , you are going to need it :D

http://www.billp.org/Dockstader/ValveGear.html

You need to look at file 10b for the Baker gear .. if this not enough to get you through the animation I'll render a bunch of frames to show you how it should look in 3D , (cannot offer any help with Sketchup , Canvas or Blender)

Cab .. I got :D

Full 3D yeah ? .You got quite the job ahead of ya *!!wink!!* so I offer my **!!2cents!!**

A lot of valves , levers and guages won't be functional in RW , you can of course include them in the model ( and for sure does look great , no doubt about that ), this comes at great expense in both time spent modeling and the tri count for your completed mesh . Model a nice "representation" of the whole , get the major items right first and then update later , you'll save yourself a lot of !*hp*!

I'll send to you later .

Good Luck :D

As I go at getting it into the game I will release beta versions until I can actually release the full one, if I have some help there's better chance that I could get it in.

Modeling is somewhat easy to me, but afterwards, working with blueprints totally illudes me. That part I'll have trouble with.

And if you still have the original Rail Simulator Developer Tools PM me, because if I get anything into the game I will first need them since my Railworks tools will not work since the breaking of them.

As well, since I'm building it in sketchup I am not sure if it's too big or too small, if it's too big I won't be able to release it, if it's too small it will look funny in the game. I will later try to build the other two 4,6,4 Hudson, the Commodore Vanderbilt and the regular Hudson, (non streamlined)

Here's some more progress, started on the 3d cab late last night.

Now to figure out how to make, or get some controls.

If you have some controls you would like to port to me my program imports both dae files and 3ds files. Since I can't figure out how to make them on sketchup.

PM me if you like.

Here's some pictures of the 3d cab, it is going to be a separate file for the cab.

And yes, Blender can import something from sketchup, though, it's not easy though to export or import anything into any program.

Started working on some controls, not sure if they will move in the sim, I'll try my hardest to make sure they do.

Here's some more progress on the 3d cab, put together a basic throttle and will add more controls and gauges. With piping running to the gauges and valve knobs, as well as pressure knobs.

I'll try to find a cab shot of a NYC Hudson (locomotive used), but it's sort of gonna be hard since they were all scrapped in the 60's, so don't count on a photo being found...

I've actually looked and looked and haven't had any luck.

I can say that this one will pretty much have a fiction cab, but if you could find cab photo's of the Commodore Vanderbilt I plan to build that later.

You'll need to get this sorted before you get involved in detailing , the longer you leave it the harder it'll be to get the model into the editor .

Sent you some small pics .. not much but all you're going to get without spending cash . Success with modeling is proportional to the time you spend researching and the $$ you spend purchasing things you'll never find on the interwebs

Go here .. http://www.nycshs.org/ .. and take your CC with you , 2 books and some CD's gets you all the info , cab pics and drawings included.

.

Edit

And if you still have the original Rail Simulator Developer Tools PM me

Sorry , no have got no more .. deleted them .
