I also have a question about the side and connecting rods. I'm not sure if the way I modeled them is accurate to an 1895 to 1905 built locomotive. Can anybody tell me if they're accurate to locomotives of the period, specifically period PRR locomotives?

I was messing around with the frame of the A3, and the results of this is something interesting.

These aren't based on any real locomotives, but that's the point. I figured I would freelance my own engines. I was thinking of releasing these with the A3, but they're far from finished. The A3 has more of the exterior done than these do(I haven't even made proper connecting rods for these yet).

What does everybody think of freelanced steam engines? I also intend on making lead and trailing trucks for other wheel arrangements. I'm also open to any creative input on things to add to these, any wheel arrangements (real or fictional ) and anything else relating to steam locomotives.

At least making a generic 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 or 0-8-0 for switching purposes would be neat to have for realism (and they are all very similar designs on most railroads anyhow, aside from PRR's fancy firebox). Anything beyond that do it for fun. While on the subject of steam trains with no leading/trailing wheels and if you are up for a challenge the PRR did have an 0-8-8-0 called a class CC2 which was designed to shunt entire consists around not just a dozen cars or so.

Aside from that little spiel good work so far!

I've modified the firebox to look like the few pictures I've found recently.Based on those pictures and looking closer at the blueprint, it appears that the A3's had Belpaire fireboxes instead of Round-Top ones.

There's still a lot to add, but it's looking more and more like an actual steam engine!

This is the current state of the A3. I'm completely re-doing everything. Things like the cab and drive wheels aren't how they'll look eventually. I'm also not sure I like how the marker lamps came out. I know they're floating, but I'm still looking for better photos of the lamps and brackets. I might also re-model the tender body at some point as well.

The reason this exists is because I simply wanted to know what American 4-10-0's could've turned into had development progressed beyond Central Pacific's "El Gobernador" (potentially becoming know as the "Gobernador" Type). This design is basically a PRR A3 with a round top, larger diameter boiler that's been stretched.

So this example is just the first. As I find other real locomotives to become the basis, I do want to expand upon this. As well as other fictional wheel arrangements and freelanced locomotive designs.

I'm aware that it's too short (it's only 13ft 4.171in tall), it's also 30ft 9.311in long.

I'm open to any criticisms and creative input about improving the design.
