Have some schools planned and also building some hotels. Have one in the game now though, the big white hotel.

Actually, very soon I have to do some office buildings and a general store, since I've yet to do any of that.

Tried modeling a locomotive once, but these days I'm just too burnt out to even want to try again. Also tried to do a lofted road today, and was unsuccessful, perhaps will have better luck next time whenever I can find a good tutorial that points to using 3D Crafter and not 3ds max.
At least when it comes to building buildings I know what I'm doing.

John, I posted this in the other thread. If you are looking for inspiration and source material, check it out. There are also excellent B/W photos, many of reference quality.

Would you care to do Thurmond, W.Va. for instance?
You can find detailed drawing like these and many more, ready to model:

Or historic Cleveland, Pittsburgh or any other major US city that has a university with a history department and electronic library.
Pay special attention to the rapidly vanishing public and civic architecture from the 20's till 40's in Art Deco style.

A new project for the set. Another vintage hotel.

Still have a couple floors to do before it will be finished.

Here's what it's going to be once finished.

Do you think you could do a speed drawing of one of your buildings? I''ve started working with sketchup and im creating a station (Wilmington station, DE) and just wanted to see someone creating something for Railworks

When building a building for RW, even with sketchup it's impossible to do speed drawing. Because the bigger the building, the longer it takes to build it. My recent tower I built, 17 story city building took about 4 hours just in the building stage.

But if you need help getting your model into the game I can tell you exactly how to do it and every step required.
Though, you'd have to have 3D Crafter Pro in order for me to help you. Don't know a thing about Blender or 3DS Max.

Also to keep your model of decent poly level there are always certain details that have to be left out. Like 3d art work on the model. Have to keep the model as flat as possible to save on the poly level.

If you got 3D Crafter Pro I would be more then happy to help you get your buildings into the game. Since the game needs more freeware building modelers anyways.

Looks good except that orange color is hideous on that building. You're adding a brick texture there I hope?

Yes, just have a while to go before it will be finished.

I set it up this way now so it's easier to see where each texture will have to go.

Compare to a vintage picture of the actual Plankinton Hotel from Milwaukee.

The new hotel in the game.

Note, the way the textures look is because of my graphics card and not the way the buildings would actually look in game on a higher level computer.

I now only have a handful of more buildings to build and then I'll release the second set of buildings.

Beautiful. I so want to see a Franklin & South Manchester style route for RW. It would need a real kick-a$$ system with SSD to run properly, but oh my goodness, with your stuff it would be so magnificent!

Next, another large building.

Near the end I'll also do some smaller city buildings. But those have been pretty well covered already by GreatNorthernor. I'm mainly focusing on the larger parts of the big city.

Will do a set of urban houses though.
