WIP route: Regiobahn S28

Unread postby Toldrabald » Mon Jul 12, 2010 10:26 am

Thought I might give you some first shots and an announcement on my building plans.

It's a private german local passenger route with about 34km (~21 miles) length of track from Kaarst to Mettmann (no shame if you don't know the towns, even most german people certainly don't *!lol!*) passing through Neuss and Düsseldorf (North Rhine Westfalia's capitol) and crossing the river Rhine. On the other end it goes up into the "Bergisches Land" (hilly countryside) along the Neandertal valley (this one you could know *!!wink!!*). In real train goes every 20 minutes from each terminus, having a meet at Neuss main station, because part of the track is only with one spur. Average driving time from one end to the other is about 47 minutes. Trains used are diesel engines named "Talent" and as I have absolutely no experience in 3D modelling and none in configuring RW it might stay a dream to have those on the tracks... For testing purposes I used the Isle of Wight trains, might stick so some default ones though. More information to the company itself and the route on the (german) homepage Regiobahn.de.
Release is currently announced to "when it's done" - a short while just after Duke Nukem Forever will be out *!greengrin!*
a testing version will go out when I completed the first bigger station on the way, which is Neuss after about 7 km.

I'm still working on it, a little update is on my blog: http://web42.org/?c=railworks_en
There seem to be some trouble with my blog software. I don't want to have the english articles visible on my frontpage, but when I make them disappear from that they aren't visible at all. Until I can solve this I will post links to the english text versions on this post: http://web42.org/index.php?id=50
If you're just interested in pics delete the "_en" at the end of the first link. From time to time I will give you a notice here about the progress.

Hi Toldrabald,
I'll keep an eye on this project! Are you planning to make a Talent for RW? I sure could use it as the OC Transpo, here in Ottawa, Canada, operates some on their light rail system! *!!wink!!*

Cheers,
Christian

Sorry mate, my 3D modelling genius just reached placing cubes in an empty scene *!lol!* Maybe, and this is a big maybe, I get someone to build one for me, no for all of us. But he has very little time at the moment and still 3 own projects in the pipeline. So for the moment I need to stick to the British DMUs. Eventually I'll do a repaint, but I need to learn about that too. Fun thing: for testing purposes I'm using SD40s and Dash 9s as they are so huge it helps me in placing bridges on the correct heights. Looks very strange, but works :D

Matze

long time no update here, and nearly the same time no real progress on my route. I was busy with Starcraft 2 and Mafia 2 the last 2-3 weeks, but still working on it.
What you see here is the new farm at Morgensternsheide, north and south of it not much happened. It’s coming slowly, but it’s coming!

Oh and where I'm at it: improved my scenario creating skills tonight with a Class 390 run on the Glasgow Airport Rail Link route. Details and download on my blog, don't know if you want to see british stuff in your file library here. But feel free to add it Hawk, it's under CreativeCommons-BY-SA license *!!wink!!*

Guess I'll dig out this thread here to post you a little update and a first beta testing version :D

Yes I finally reached a point to give out a first useable version. The route is not yet finished, especially in Kaarst you'll see a bigger hole in buildings and scenery and also at Neuss HBF (main station) there still needs work to be done. But in between the route is about 90% complete. I placed some diggers everywhere I'm still working on, some disappeared already. Just because of this holes I do not want to give it into the library yet. I would be glad if some people would try out this test version and give me some feedback if I did everything right (I know I didn't) and regarding loading times and fps around Neuss HBF.
Included are 2 useable freeroam scenarios with start in Neuss and Kaarst and a simple time tabled scenario from Neuss to Kaarst. I included a list of the used assets, this may not be complete. And you're here the perfect platform to try out because I think very few of you will have lots of german assets. It requires 4 UKTS downloads, lots from the german site Rail-Sim.de and a few others.
There may be some confusion with language and a mix of german and english in the scenario descriptions or ingame texts, if you encouter something please also let me know.
Generally speaking: this is a BETA version! Errors may (and probably will) show up, in this case I would like some notice about when and where. But also if everything runs fine any general feedback, positive and negative, is welcome :D

Payware needed: Isle of Wight and Phorum Peninsula (IoW might be optional, I used some houses and other scenary, PP is must-have because some tracks and rolling stock is used)

Download (see next page, newer version available!)

Thanks in advance!

Ok, by the number of downloads I can see that there is no real interest in german routes here. Anyway the ppl who got it: did it work or were you scared by the number of asset downloads? I know it's a lot, but there is so few fitting content in RW itselft that it is necessary.
And just to give some more sense in this posting: I'm still building and this part of the route is now nearly completed and I can move on to extend the route eastwards soon :) New version will follow after the weekend I think, not sure if I'll post it here though...

Dwnloaded it but I'm waiting on the Phorum Peninsula Add-on. May not be able to get that until Christmas.

Downloaded and installed, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding all the assets necessary. (yes, I did read the readme, but I'm an old fart and sometimes it takes a link or two)

Yeah, Rail-Sim.de changed their download system last week so all of the links in my readme are broken, great thing I already updated it yesterday for the new pack I'm going to release. And this time I used the filenames in the list as they are on the homepage, should make it easier to find. It is not completed yet and on some of the houses I need to go through again which ones I used, so this is only temporary: http://web42.org/gallery/RWregiobahn/Do ... Liste.html - You won't yet need the the car wash from Trainsim.com. I just built that in yesterday too.
Anyway if you spot some empty places without diggers it's probably a missing asset. If you could point me to the location or make a screenshot it would help !!*ok*!!

Oh and one thing I got to know the hard way: you have to set the detail level to 10, otherwise half of the objects won't show. I know why and how to change it, for the future I will more look out for it during the build and correct it step by step for the existing ones. Whole lotta work !*hp*!

Edit: got some good amount of work done today, new version with now 97.5% completion of the first ~10km will be ready tommorow. Need to do a testrun and some left pieces.

something for the "small" ones and some gardening *!!wink!!*

I wonder if our american friends even know what that might be...

Anyway I ran into some problems with my platform and station markers and I have to sort that out. Somehow restoring a backup went terribly wrong... I already found them in the tracks.bin and tried to alter and delete one in there which seems to work, but as for now my scenarios are all broken, even the free-roams. Sorry but I have to let you wait for the improved version until it really is improved and working again. **!!bang!!** And I won't go back now to the version from before the weekend, not again wasting 10 hours. Then better only 5 through fixing stuff *!rolleyes!* And full of frustration I found something easy to work with and finally fixed that download list and found all the items, also thanks to the builders over at the german boards. Link up there is the current version and includes all files with working links.

You guys got me curious so I looked it up. Pretty cool idea actually. Guess I'll have to wait for the new route update. No worries, I have a lot of shunting to do on Ohio Steel. !!*ok*!!

Don't ask me how but I got it fixed :D The two included scenarios are not really worked out to a 100% but they work, have some AI traffic and will show you the route. That's what they're there for, not to be a realistic experience. Wanted to tell you right away so noone's disappointed *!!wink!!*

Download including readme file and download list.

This is still a WIP project and you will clearly see that at Neuss main station (HBF), but I think apart from some details and those darn platforms which I want again to move a bit closer to the tracks at least the rest of it is somewhat finished. And yet again: if you see any errors, spot flying objects or get missing assets please let me know. Any general comments are also welcome, not that I think to get too many of them here *!!wink!!*

Anyway have fun :D
