Happy Holidays to everyone.

12-days_50.jpg

Yet another challenging year is coming to an end but, as I have done the past two years, I'd like to give back to this wonderful community of creative and generous artists who share their work with us. Their work has inspired me to try my hand at painting and share as well. I hope to finally complete and share some of my repaint ideas/projects from the past year - along with a few surprises (I hope).

To that end, I'm once again offering my "Twelve Days of Christmas" and I hope some find pleasure in them.

As before, I plan to release one repaint [or set] each day over the next twelve days... but I thought I'd start a little early so...Happy Christmas Eve!

Enjoy

Happy Holidays.

On the first day of Christmas...Pennsylvania Power and Light 100t Coal Hoppers Set

jr_pplx_redi.jpg

This is a set of three repaints for the Searchlight Simulations / Jointed Rail 100-ton coal hopper.

I don't have any information if these cars are even actually prototypical, as I've been unable to locate any real-world photos, but I just thought they looked neat.

If anyone has information about these, I'd appreciate a quick note.

On the second day of Christmas...Airco 40ft Steel Boxcars

Airco Boxcars.jpg

This is another of those cars which I've not confirmed really existed but my brother and I love model trains (he's the one who still actually does real-world model trains, not me....hhh). Anyway, these were just fun to paint and I thought they'd make a colofrul addition to consists. Thanks to the G-TraX designers for the model.

Airco, the Air Reduction Company, was founded in New York City in 1907. The company originally produced and distributed oxygen and acetylene for welding. It became a pioneer in developing technologies for producing other industrial gases like nitrogen, argon, and helium, along with various gas mixtures. These gases found applications across a wide range of industries, from manufacturing and construction to healthcare and research.

Happy Christmas.

On the third day of Christmas...Military PS1 Boxcars

This is yet another repaint set for the G-TraX 40ft Steel Boxcar.

The United States Military and the railroads have a long term connection. The Civil War saw the United States and Confederate militaries utilize railroads heavily and the railroads had only been around for about thirty years prior. Troops, equipment and supplies have all been moved by rail in every military action since. Today, most military freight equipment is lettered DODX, but in previous years the marks USAX (Army,) USNX (Navy,) USAFX/DAFX (Air Force) and others were used. By 1975, DODX was the only reporting mark listed.

Happy Christmas.

On the fourth day of Christmas...Autoparts 86ft Boxcars

86ft Boxcars Set 1.jpg

This is a repaint set for the RSC 86ft Boxcar from the NS_Freight01 folder [I can't recall which DLC pack].

Thrall introduced the 86ft Hi-Cube Boxcar for autoparts in 1964. Production continued until December of 1973 with many body, ladder, brake, and door variations among each series. The early versions featured roofwalks that were removed by the early 70s. Many lasted until the 2010s when they were retired after reaching their 50-year mandated retirement age.

It is RSC\NS_Freight01 and you really should not be including the .Geo files.

Many thanks for the repaints.

Thank you, John.

I forgot about that. I'm trying to get these finished quickly each day and forget.

I'll add a note to myself to check before uploading.

I've removed the geo's and reuploaded the zip file.

Happy Christmas.

On the fifth day of Christmas...40ft Steel Reefers Repaints - PRR Ice Service, CARDOX, ThermIce

As with many of my recent projects, these cars were inspired by my model railroading enjoyment with my brother. I have very little prototypical information on these cars but I enjoy how they look.

Happy Christmas.

On the seventh day of Christmas...Modern Reefer Repaints

Reefers_R-70-20.jpg

This is a repaint set for the MaineLines Reefers [R-70-20].

These cars were built by Pacific Car and Foundry in Benton, WA. The R-70-20 designation stands for a reefer with 70-ton capacity. The 20 designates the 20th design in the builder's reefer series. The cars are a direct derivative of the PFE reefer design. They represent the last major release of this design of cars. In 1969, 1,200 of these cars were delivered, with an additional 1,200 delivered in 1970. Initially the cars were delivered in PFE lettering.

Happy Holidays

On the eighth day of Christmas...72ft Reefer Repaints

Reefers_72ft.jpg

This is a repaint set for the SearchlightSimulations 72ft Reefers.

Greenbrier 72ft Reefers have an impressive capacity of 7780 cu.ft., with a 72ft 3in interior length. This makes it a whopping 82ft over the drawbars. The storage capacity is massive and shippers take full advantage of this feature, shipping items such as light or bulky frozen and perishable items.

Since their introduction, the cars have commonly taken loads of potatoes, french fries and various perishables from the Pacific Northwest and California to points on the east coast. For a time, Union Pacific and CSX ran a joint train nicknamed “The Salad Shooter” for those purposes.

In 2020, Lineage Logistics acquired Cryo-Trans and placed more orders for the Greenbrier Reefers. The new deliveries came with different features, which slightly changed the exterior look. The cage around the reefer unit changed, the truck centers were made to be slightly closer, and a more prominent notch for the end step on the B-end was added. Lineage Logistics continued the tradition of applying a colorful paint scheme and individual car naming.
