On Horseshoe Curve leaving Altoona. Nice loco. Lots of things to play with.

Hi,

Thanks much for posting this. What a wonderful gift to the Train Sim community -- and what a masterful creation. Truly amazing work, like always from DSGDDR. Their models have enriched the North American virtual rails at a remarkable degree.
*!!thnx!!*

Cheers,
Michael

Just leave it to be known, the PRR S1 was a long steam locomotive to not be articulated, and as such there were a lot of curves that it simply couldn't handle, even in real life. It was already known, even during the PRR days in the 1940's that it couldn't handle the Horseshoe Curve, so the engine was mainly only run on the PRR's widest routes and some of its widest mainlines.

Simply, the S1 is not an engine for tight curves, it will jump any curve that's too tight for it.

Thanks much for the heads-up about this realistic issue. !!*ok*!!

So we shouldn't travel the Clinchfield in our Duplex then. *!twisted!* Leaving aside which railroad operated it, which routes (preferrably steam or transition era based) come to mind that would be "straight" enough for the Duplex to stretch her legs? From the top off my head, I can think of the NEC routes, the fast sections of the Surfliner, (though those all modern), GN Hi-Line, the upcoming B&A, Springfield Line, ... which others might be good candidates?

Cheers,
Michael

If it wasn't for how busy life got after 2020, I'd probably have had part of the PRR Fort Wayne Line (Crestline to Fort Wayne) ready to run it on.

For those who want to run this on a tighter radius ( It won't traverse 'The Curve" on Horseshoe Curve and it will bind in the yard switches in Altoona you can change the front bogie pivot.

In its brief service life it was restricted to the main line between Chicago, Illinois and Crestline, Ohio. It was assigned to the Fort Wayne Division and based at the Crestline enginehouse. The S1 hauled passenger trains such as The General and The Trailblazer on this route. According to the PRR's roster on 26 November 1943, The consist of Train #77 The Trailblazer had 14 rebuilt heavyweight passenger cars with streamlined features in total which including one PB70ER passenger baggage car, nine P70KR coaches, two D70CR and D70DR Diner, one P70GSR coach, and one POC70R coach-observation. Is there a Pensy route that covers Fort Wayne Division?

Not at the moment, no.

I mean, the track is down, the terrain is sorta there, but there is little to no scenery. I think the only complete location for scenery is Dixon, IN, on the State Line. Van Wert was like 1/3 of the way done.

It's very well made but totally impractical and even absurd... even as far as trainsim goes. Just like the real thing !*roll-laugh*!

Which file is this found in? I looked in the .bin file and could not find this.

The attention to detail on this loco is superb. Right down to a switch for the classification lights. It's contributions like this by third parties which make it worthwhile sticking with TSC . To the creator(s) of this loco - Thanks guys.
