Train Simulator: GP40-2 Loco Pack Add-On: Cannot Couple

Hi Guys, This is a weird one. I need a 4 axel Norfolk Southern Unit as a road switcher. I have had the Train Simulator: GP40-2 Loco Pack Add-On since release as it also has an Autoparts Car, and CSX 50 footer.

On to my issues:
1. Coupling to rolling stock causes derailment of the target car (RSC UP, RSC Undecorated 60" and Sherman Hill 60' Boxcars)
2. Coupling to rolling stock does not occur (RSC UP, RSC Undecorated 60" and Sherman Hill 60' Boxcars)
3. Coupling to another GP40-2 does not occur.
3. It will couple to an NJT Comet III coach
4. Same issue with the GP38-2NSPack01.

Steps:
1. Testing same coupling with NS Big 7 Pack and the NS SW1500 ( no issues)
2. Deleted C$\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\DTG\GP40-2Pack01 and performed File Validation
3. Reboot Machine.
4. Testing only done on the Bergen (oh-oh!)

Note Full Reverse being applied and no other unit attached in the couple view.

Does anyone have any idea as to why this is occurring and if so, how to resolve.

And for craps and giggles I tested the same rolling stock and loco on another route: the Norfolk Southern Coal District.
Same graphic result: Ka - boom!

You are talking about the GP-40-2Pack01 from DTG right? I just tried it on my test track and no issues. Confirm that's the loco and I'll try it on the Bergen but I don't know why that would make a difference.

Thanks Buzz. I confirmed several times its the GP40-2Pack01. I'm now testing other rolling stock. Note the GP40 will not even couple to itself.
One more thing... testing has been done in Quick Drives Only.

*******************************************************************************
New Observation in FREE ROAM

1. See new type of of GP40-2 called (C&D) This C&D unit will not start, makes no noise, you can sit in it and move the controls but nothing.
2. Ran the GP40-2 "running" this was able to couple. No issus

Conclusion: GP40-2Pack01 CANNOT couple to other vehicles in Quick Drive, but can in Free Roam.
Next Step: make scenario and test.
* Note: I test EVERTHING IN Quick Drives on the BERGEN, its what I do. I only used the free roam when I worked on repaints on a test route.

Color me confused at this time. In QD it would uncouple with the car that I brought with and couple back up. At Campbell Hall it derailed with both the string of boxcars and the tankers that were there in the scenario. Set up a free roam and it couples and uncouples to everything I tried with no problems.

Confused here as well. And since I am a dummy I have spend 8 hours trying to trial and error what was wrong. You my friend have sped up the process.
I just made a scenario - No Issues. Works like its supposed to.

Conclusion - The GP40-2 Loco Pack Add-On has the following fault.
Unit running stand alone in a quick drive will not couple and or will cause a derailment.
No issues in Free Roam or Scenario.
* should I send this to the Empire for review?

For me, this resolves my concern running this unit on a scenario on the Bergen.
Buzz you are a treasure! !!*ok*!!
Have a PBR on me ! !*cheers*!

C&D means cold and dark. You gots to start it before it'll go. !*roll-laugh*!

Well as I described it..it was certainly cold and dark.
And I knew where start button was too!

Doh!

Anyway it's a nice unit and I really need a decent road switcher for what I plan to do. I will follow up over on da Bergen thread. Good news is I was on Trainsimulator all weekend. Suffice to say..it has been awhile.

Carry on.

Don't mind if I do but Yuengling is my choice. No need to report unless you want. The couplings bin is fubar. Try this one and see if it fixes the problem. It did here and I have no idea why it worked on the free roam.

buckeye_type_e_coupling.zip

Drop this into your GP40-2Pack01\RailVehicles\Couplings\Buckeye\Type-E folder.

Oop! The new bin file didn't do the trick. I did couple and immediately derailed at 1.8 mph.
I say let the sleeping dog lie.

One of many reasons I dislike QD. It does odd things sometimes.

QD does odd things only when there are blueprints called which are outside of all ticked packages or the packages used by the route or when blueprints are just NA.
I have never seen a coupling issue in the context of a QD. Reason was always uncorrect positioning or data of the couplings.

Minerman146, please check the couplings for both the loco and the wagons.
The couplings from the HiLine worked always perfect for me. With empty and loaded wagons.
Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<cBlueprintLoader xmlns:d="http://www.kuju.com/TnT/2003/Delta" d:version="1.0">
   <Blueprint>
      <cCouplingTypeBlueprint>
         <UncoupledGeometry d:type="cDeltaString">VNHRR\HiLine\RailVehicles\Couplings\AAR_TypeE\[00]AAR_Type-E_uncoupled</UncoupledGeometry>
         <Bogey d:type="cDeltaString"></Bogey>
         <Strength d:type="sFloat32">1000</Strength>
         <CouplingConnection>
            <cCouplingConnectionBlueprint d:id="12200">
               <Type d:type="cDeltaString">buckeye</Type>
               <CoupledGeometry d:type="cDeltaString">VNHRR\HiLine\RailVehicles\Couplings\AAR_TypeE\[00]AAR_Type-E_coupled</CoupledGeometry>
               <ReceivingGeometry d:type="cDeltaString"></ReceivingGeometry>
               <PivotType d:type="cDeltaString">eMidPoint</PivotType>
               <MinDistance d:type="sFloat32">0</MinDistance>
               <MaxDistance d:type="sFloat32">0.1</MaxDistance>
               <TargetDistance d:type="sFloat32">0.05</TargetDistance>
               <SpringCoefficient d:type="sFloat32">15000</SpringCoefficient>
               <Damping d:type="sFloat32">12000</Damping>
               <MaxForce d:type="sFloat32">2.9e+006</MaxForce>
               <ManualCoupling d:type="bool">0</ManualCoupling>
            </cCouplingConnectionBlueprint>
         </CouplingConnection>
      </cCouplingTypeBlueprint>
   </Blueprint>
</cBlueprintLoader>

Critical are the entries between MinDistance and Damping, especially Springcoefficient and Damping. As an alternative you could try "0" for MaxDistance and TargetDistance.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
Kris

Hello everyone, I have placed the new Bin file and when I couple the cars behind my lead loco everything goes well. But if I try to couple my lead loco with the second GP-40-2 loco, they don't couple. No derailment but the coupling is not done. !*don-know!* Do you have any idea how to solve this problem? Any help appreciate, thanks.

Torfmeister posted the followig on DTG Forums last monthe - and it works - but you have to do it for each loco folder.
