Budd RDC -- They are Back! With New WP and ARR Versions, too!

Hi all,

After endless delays with lots of plans and ideas about what to do with these models, I'm realizing that all this is going exactly nowhere and I'll likely never take the time to update these cars. So I'm releasing them now, without changes, as freeware like most of the rest of the older models before.

I've also added two new versions: Alaska Railroad and Western Pacific. Both share some files with NH set, which needs to installed for these repaints to function. Alternatively, for those who have no interest in the NH (is such a thing even possible?!?), I have provided a custom "Shared Assets" download which provides all the needed files for the repaints (ARR, B&M, WP).

Big thanks to Pete Willard (railsimstuff.com) for the font I've used on the WP car!

Have fun with the Buddliners.

Cheers!
Michael

Thanks. I only had NH and B&M installed so it was a bonanza :)

Any chance of one of these in this series or the older CP version with red and white stripes?

Oh wow, a “Zephyrette”! Thanks! Will definitely add it to the “Feather River” Route.

Just found this very interesting page with a lot of details about the Budd Cars.

I especially appreciated the list of know operators and some great details.

Thought I'd post this in case anyone else might enjoy reading about the Budds.

It's great that these have finally seen the light of day once more! I almost immediately started pulling them apart for repainting, and I noticed these two oddities. Firstly, the exterior texture seems to be duplicated on the inside - this only happens as far as I can tell on the ARR RDC-3s and the WP RDC-2s. Secondly, there's these weird bump maps on the doors of only the Alaska RDC-3s.

Not too sure what's up with those. The CVP and RW&A will be getting some Budd action soon, at least once I work out the mapping. Many thanks for these wonderful cars! !*salute*!

Thanks for the many kind comments.
Matt -- particular thanks for the bug reports! I'll fix these, of course. Now what can I blame it on that I missed these very obvious issues? !*hp*! Basically, it was all caused by not paying enough attention when swapping the textures for the repaints.

Cheers
Michael

When i click to download i get a whole webpage full of ancient Egyptian language, no actual file to save.

Tried a little later and now the webpage just freezes *!sad!*

Oh dern. THAT again! I keep forgetting that "modern" browsers (now Chrome, too!) seem to have trouble downloading unknown file formats (like .rwp). What was wrong with the old method of prompting the user a dialog box what they wanted to do with that unknown file? Like... ooh, what a revolutionary concept, save it to disk? Better stop here before I launch into a terrible rant.

Anyhow. I'll repackage them as .zip and hope this will work. Meanwhile, you can try right-clicking the link and select "save target as" (though I've heard that in the newer MS browsers even that basic function isn't there any more?)

Cheers
Michael
