RoadRailer Simulations proudly presents: The SD40-2 Leasers Pack Volume 1!

The EMD (Electro-Motive Diesel) SD40-2 was originally built from January 1972 to July 1984 in the United States, February 1986 in Mexico, 1988 in Canada, and October 1989 in Brazil. The locomotive was similar to the original SD40, but with some electrical improvements. Despite other high-powered EMD locomotives made during this time, the reliability and versatility of the 3,000-horsepower engine made this the best-selling model in EMD's history. Today, most of them are still in service, either original or rebuilt. Burlington Northern was the largest buyer of SD40-2's, with over 830 units acquired, larger than Union Pacific alone (not counting mergers). Most of them remain in service on the BNSF today.

During the first few years in the 20th century, BNSF sold off some of their fleet of former BN units to leaser companies, notably First Union Rail (now Wells Fargo Rail), and Helm Leasing, in which they remained in service there for quite some time. However, most (if not all) former BN units from First Union, were sold to other railroads, sold to National Railway Equipment, or scrapped. As for Helm's ex-BN units, some of them remain in service today, but some were later sold to other railroad companies, or scrapped. The most notable Helm ex-BN unit is 8070, which was built as BN 8070, which later passed onto BNSF in a unique patched scheme, before being sold to Helm in around 2011. Today, the locomotive is no longer in the hands of Helm, but now in the hands of the Genesee and Wyoming's Dallas Garland & Northeastern as 3495, where it remains in service today.

RoadRailer Simulations' SD40-2 Leasers Pack Volume 1 for Train Simulator comes with the EMD SD40-2 in 5 ex-BN and ex-BNSF leaser paint schemes: 2 First Union Rail (FURX) in ex-BN and ex-BNSF paint schemes, and 2 Helm Leasing (HLCX) in ex-BN and ex-BNSF paint schemes, and as a bonus, we are including a repaint of HLCX 8070, using the highest quality SD40 model from the required add-on! This freeware pack will be a neat addition to your Train Simulator collection!

These would look nice with some weathering.

There's already a HLCX SD40-2 in Ex-BN scheme in the library by the user BKRR605, but the more leasers the merrier! I look forward to gtting my hands on these as soon as I am able to pick up the BNSF SD40-2 addon.

Sorry for the delay guys, but I have been working incredibly hard on the SD40-2 Leasers Pack Volume 1, which I'll be rolling out sometime this weekend.

I have been busy getting the scenarios ready and doing the final tweaks to the repaints before they are ready to be released. 3 of the scenarios have been developed by StevenJam, whom I have been working with on those scenarios, while the 4th one, which will be the HLCX 8070 scenario, will be developed by me. Here's what I've got so far:









Oh, and for those who have been asking about the weathering, unfortunately I won't be able to accomplish that, as I simply don't have enough time to do that. However, I have been learning how to weather locomotives (mostly with my static repaints for the Century County Line), so that may be a possibility to see weathered versions in the future, but for now, the repaints will be released as-is.

The best weathering jobs, in my opinion, are done with decals. Look up "Textures.com" and find the site where you can download the decals. There are some neat things that you can find on there.

Just went to the site, and they actually don't look too bad. I'll keep that in mind for future RRS projects.

You're welcome! As of when I'm writing this post, I have just finished scenario testing and the pack is ready for release on August 5th on the RRS Site! (With an RWA release coming soon)
