This is the best guide I've found so far. It's not exactly a straightforward process till you get used to it. I use Photoshop 7.1, ancient by any standard, but it works fine. You'll need the NVidia plugin and RSbinTool for file conversion etc. The only variation I use is RW_Tools to modify the *.bin file rather than dropping over serz.exe, converting to *.xml then back to *.bin. Any user of TS should have RW_Tools. It's great.

Good Luck.

I've got the various tools and have converted the tga files into DDS. What I don't understand is how to use the layered PSD paint templates that come with the Alco and apply it to the DDS image. Copying the layer directly from the template into the DDS just covers the underlying base layer.

I don't know that tga are part of TS. TgPcDx are the texture files I've been working with. With the Alco, you don't have to convert the *_master.TgPcDx to dds. because Rich has given us a PSD to work with. As always, first make a copy of the TgPcDx you want to re-do. Then I would use RSBinTools to open the *.TgPcDx file you want to re-do. Click File>open>Serz> your.TgPcDx. Just leave it open then go to Photoshop and do your repainting. Then click file>Save As to open the file type dialog box, scroll to DDS, click that and the NVidia plugin will open. Find the appropriate DDS and click save. RSBinTools tells you what file type to use in the lower left corner. It could be DXT3, DXT5 or whatever. Once you save your dds, go back to RSBinTools and click DDSTools, Import DDS Data. You should see the changes you've made. Then Save As the texture file you want to replace. It will ask you if you want to replace file, say yes. Then go to TS and see how it looks. This may sound convoluted, but it's not too bad once you get the swing of it. Hope I didn't forget anything.

Best,

Thanks - for some reason I was blanking on the fact that I could simply edit/flatten the template and export it directly as a DDS file and then use RSbin to import the dds data etc.

I got a quick (and ugly test case working), so at least I know the rough process now.

Awesome engine to run on the NS Coal District.

One thing I'd love to see though, a rusty cab engine with the rusted and weathered engine, I think it would look awesome if that cab was also weathered like your GP9 repaint.

First off, brilliant work. I'm thinking about a few reskins I may need to do.

Could you possibly make a version with ditchlights? It'd be great for those of us modelling more modern lines.

Can you find a single picture of a S2 with ditch lights?

Why they'd bother installing ditchlights on a long grandfathered engine anyways beats me.

Yes, that is the only evidence I could find of a S2 with ditchlights. Just figured I'd ask. I'm not really that worried about it, just curious.

So? Add the ditchlights anyways, who says it has to be one engine? Make fictional units.

Maybe the author would like this to stay prototypical.

After installing this fix, I had a pleasantly surprised. The locomotive in winter season has snow textures and icicles on the railings! Image
