That fixed it!

Just had time for a few marshaling operations. Very nice job so far. I'll send particular things I notice directly, but the signals look great! Very good job on those. All seems to be working correctly so far. I don't know if you intend for the grain elevator to load/unload, but I couldn't get it to load the covered hoppers there. I'm new to this, and am not even sure grain elevators load covered hoppers. :-)

Hi,

Thanks for all your replies here and by email! *!!thnx!!*
The route loads, the signals seem to work, and it seems most of the crucial elements are 'behaving properly' too. That's all I wanted to hear! *!lol!*

There are a few "known issues" as of know. I'll try to address these before uploading the route to RWA, but if I don't catch all of them please keep in mind that this is still very much a work in progress.

There are now several errors or missing stuff that I'm aware of, thanks to your kind help.
Ordered by importance, these are:
- no freight transfer points at the elevators
- possibly missing bulk freight unload transfer at the smelter (will check that)
- missing terrain under the highway overpass at the west yard ladder
- messed up UV scrolling at Black Eagle dam waterfalls (some move way too fast, some move upwards)
- several buildings floating or sunk into ground in the urban area
- some terrain spills in the urban area

The first three will definately be addressed before the file library upload, the others may have to wait for the next version.

BTW: about the elevators. Closed hoppers were absolutely loaded there, though until well into the mid-20th century much of the grain was transported in boxcars, where they had either placed some wooden boards behind the door, or sometimes also cut a hole into the upper panel of the door to fill bin the grain. Sometimes you can see these grain doors on old pictures of 40' and 50' boxcars.

This here http://www.modelerschoice.com/articles.html (discovered by googling -- click on "Weathering Freight Cars") offers a great overview of the history of grain shipping in the US.

Cheers,
Michael

I agree, a very fine route so far. The trackside detail is perfect and distant scenery is just right. Good framerates for me too.

Thanks Michael!

RW_Tools says I am missing this signal:

Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\railnetwork\signals\us modern\track\us def2 dwarf 1h 1t yard.bin

Is this a custom signal for the route, or a default signal that I can add by Verifying Steam Files?

Hi

It might be case sensitivity...

I have "Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\RailNetwork\Signals\US Modern\Track\US Def2 Dwarf 1H 1T Yard.bin"

Two thoughts occur...

- It might not actually be a real problem if RW_Tools is being overly fussy. (The easier fix.)
- Check to see if you actually have the directory and file like I do. If so, a file might require an edit to change some letters to upper case if you can find the file that has the incorrect case.

Or, you can replace the signal called for with the signal you have (if you have it) that is just spelled with upper case letters and all will be well, I think.

Let's all encourage Michael to carry this wonderful start to Havre or Sweetgrass or Butte or wherever his heart desires, because this is a route with tremendous potential, it seems to me.

I have:

US Def2 Dwarf 1H 1T.bin

and

US Def2 Dwarf 2H 2T yard.bin

but no

US Def2 Dwarf 1H 1T Yard.bin

and I just did a Verify Local Files.

Where do you suppose I could get a US Def2 Dwarf 1H 1T Yard.bin?

Hi,

Thanks for all your kind comments!

That missing dwarf "yard" signal... my best explanation for this issue at this point is that this could be one of the things where somebody added a customized asset to the Kuju and KujuUS folders which then got distributed somehow. However, that shouldn't matter -- for the next release of the route I wanted to replace these dwarf signals anyway, with signals that have the actual GN scripting so they'd show the correct aspects.

A route map is a good idea, I'll see what I can do. There are a LOT of sidings and spur in GF, it's quite easy to get lost.

Edit: How many miles in version 1 -- no idea. Not many in terms of territory covered, but huge in terms of actual trackage when counting all sidings.
As for the extension of the route, I haven't made up my mind yet where it's going to go. And when that might happen.

Cheers,
Michael
