Almost there with TPW v2.

Don't suppose anyone has a texture map for the 40ft G-Trax steel boxcars?

Trying to locate a few areas of the texture to fix the doors.

No idea why I'm currently fixated on TPW but it's a fun scheme..

Thank you Harry but not really. I have collected thousands of images and use them, along with some trickery -- and a bit of Paintshop -- to bring these into the game.

I wish I had true artistic talents but I do have a graphics artist friend and coach who has taught me useful tricks in PSP.

I hope others find these projects fun to play with as well.

Cheers.

...another one of my colorful and unusual repaints...

NYC Blue Boxcar?!
kb_nyc_blue_boxcar.jpg

In 1958, the New York Central began experimenting with new paint schemes, graphics and colors to update its images. In September the Beech Grove shops were tasked to apply an experimental blue color scheme with new white lettering and “watermelon” logos to four freight cars prior to repainting the entire fleet. Apparently there were second thoughts about this after the first cars were previewed by management in New York. After two box cars were painted, they were told to hold off on completing the project. Eventually the project was scrapped. There must have been a lot of left-over blue paint at the shops.

Livestock Cars

Unread postby hobo1960 » Sat Jan 25, 2025 5:52 pm

G'day, all.

I think I just checked off another of my long-term workbench projects.

For quite a long time I have wanted to repaint livestock cars in a variety of colorful schemes but all the actual stockcar models are very unfriendly to such a pursuit. But, after my rather pleasing success with the Live Poultry cars earlier, I decided to see what I could do with the same car to recreate a believable-looking stockcar.

Along the way, I picked up a couple new techniques and even managed to edit the PBR texture so that I could place placards in different locations on the car (without need for any child object). I have to say I am rather pleased with the results. My intent all along had been to create multi-color schemes (something which the other cars available in the game would not permit...I often wonder why modelers don't consider re-painters when they create their stuff...shame).

Still have a bit more to do with these two cars but I consider them a good efforts, and I can now move forward with about another dozen-plus schemes for a variety of railroads.

Meanwhile, enjoy a sneak peak:

Thank you for supportive words. I enjoy finding ways to extend my interests and wants in the game.

I've run in to a few issues lately though that I'm trying to understand; particularly with alpha channels not staying as I set them and PBR textures doing weird things after I go back in to view model a second time...definitely frustrating and weird stuff; but I'll soon be posting some other efforts under way.

I've also started my major 2025 project (now that the Friendship Train is finished - though I think I might be creating two more cars after finding some new photos) which I hope to tease soon.

Cheers
