Just an addition to Northwest.
It looks pretty similar to the Western Pacific Mallets that ran along the Feather River Canyon and up to Salt Lake City:

https://www.wplives.com/diagrams/locomotives/1948/401-407.php

Though recognized as just a Mallet, this was quite similar to a Challenger.
There were seven of those.

Someone in RWA mentioned after the release of FRC, to repaint the Challenger to have a look alike, but I think it never happened.

It would seem steam is being awakened again in TS2018.

Now that the location of the plaque has been located, I might pull the WP Challengers out of storage and back into service on the FRC. If I do,(and when I get the time to), it'll be in another thread. For now we admire the Northern Pacific Z-6 repaint that's available for download now. :D

!!*ok*!!
You might as well be doing an update of the Z6 if the compressors child is finally made by someone.

SKRRF, Thank you for offering to work on the compressors; this is great news!

I'm not familiar with the inner workings of child-objects: is this something that can be made available as a seperate download in the library, and applied to any Challenger repaint; or would I need to apply it to the Z-6 and re-upload as an all-inclusive package (with credits of course)?

In the meantime...

Child objects are added in the bin file so it then becomes part of the asset whether it be a wagon or a locomotive.

Thanks Buzz; so it sounds like a child-object is something that can be downloaded individually and applied by the end-user to their bin files as necessary. That would be great.

Although I may need to do a v2 of this repaint anyway, since I imagine there may need to be some shadowing applied to the smoke-box face to account for the compressors.

The end user would either need to be provided with a new bin file or else would have to figure out the co-ordinates for location of the child object.

I will add it to your repaint, which is very nice (dl it and will use it), so I only have to upload the new .bin file for the engine and the folder from my child objects.
So everybody only have to overwrite your .bin file that the new paths are set and the game recognize that the child are set to this engine. I will start on weekend with it. !!howdy!!

Why not use the compressor objects off the Cab Forward?

I don't think they are a child object.

Re: Northern Pacific Z-6 Challenger - headlight fix

Unread postby ozinoz » Sat Mar 30, 2019 6:41 pm

*!embar*! Shows how long it has been, but I thought I would give the Z6 a run up the Cascadian line with a rake of PFE reefers. Problem is - no headlight. Just wondering if there has been another update to the headlight issue I might have missed. I checked the bin file for the main engine to ensure the "2" is detailed in the light state parameter as per the previous update info, but using either the in-cab switch or keyboard, can not get the headlight to stay illuminated, if I am lucky, it just fl,ashes. Have I missed a breakthrough?

Loving this route **!!bow!!**

*!!thnx!!*

Ozi, I experienced the same thing as you described when using the keyboard; but using "only" the headlamp icon in the HUD/GUI worked fine. Hope that helps.

It is amazing the things that come to mind in the middle of the night *!rolleyes!*

I was wondering if maybe the headlights actually have 3 states - forward, off and tender, not just the 2. I will have a look at some other locos bin files and fiddle about and report back when I get a chance. Just a thought...

!*cheers*!
