While I am subscribed to the Workshop Redux, I always run the original Donner with Eric upgrades. Lots more of scenarios available.

Do whatever you want, but remember that in real life, there are in fact Ponderosa pines and other trees in that area. You can see them in google earth images in 3D mode and also I've been there.
In fact I have family that live up there.
Some areas are recently denuded do to development, but in the recent past there was a lot more tree, shrubs etc.
Here's a link to Verdi as an example.
In the 70s and 80s there wasn't all that development in the area, it was still quite wild.

A lot of that area was also destroyed by fire in recent years. It used to look more like this.
