TSX off, no shadows on certain trains

Unread postby _o_OOOO_oo-Kanawha » Tue Sep 17, 2013 4:26 am

On my laptop, which is not very powerful in the GPU with only a nVidia 9300, I have to play Railworks with TSX off and only a litte AA to get a reasonable performance.
With some eye-candy still on, I noticed not all trains are casting shadows, notably my new SD45's.

How do I enable shadows?

So in RW2 the loco and wagon ground shadows were added to the model. With RW3 and TSX dynamic shadows eliminated the need for this so modeler started to remove this component from their creations (it looked ugly with TSX on anyway).

The only way you will see shadows with newer locos and wagons is with TSX on.

Thanks, Papa, for clearing that up. Best switch all shadows off then and run in "Otto" mode. *!sad!* Or never leave the cab and always look straight ahead, or only drive at night. *!lol!*

Ouch, my wallet already hurts thinking about a new laptop to run TS2014 at medium to full settings and 30 fps. And that laptop shouldn't burn a hole in my desk either ...

After reading many threads here and there I have come to the conclusion that Railworks isn't optimized for continuous laptop use. Only the most expensive gaming laptops can run games continously, and for the price of those I can buy two GTX780 card s...

I run Railworks fine on Win 7 on a MacBook Pro Retina 2012 FWIW. But that's hardly an inexpensive laptop.

FWIW have noticed a number of issues with different train models when running in non-TSX mode. Have come to the conclusion that most everyone expects you to run TSX to see things the way they intended.

.

Your MacBook, does it have that solid aluminium housing milled from one piece? Doesn't all that metal run hot over time?
