Unread postby jaicee » Mon Sep 09, 2013 8:14 am

i keep getting this message, somthing bad happened in your program, would you like to save a diagnostic file. iam running the cajon route san bernardino to barstow in the free roam mode. i edited this route by adding loco and cars on both ends of the line. sometimes it will alow me the make the trip without this message, and sometimes it will not. iam new to this and dont have a clue as how to solve such a problem. running the regular routes seem o.k. this just started when i strarted running the free roam edited routes. any help would be appreciated.

Jaicee, you're not giving us enough information to help you. When you say you edited the route, do you mean you created a freeroam scenario populated with cars? If so, your problem may be where the cars are located. If you actually edited the route and placed cars, your problem may be again where you placed the cars. I suggest you undo your edits and restart with a clean fresh route or scenario.

this is what i did. iam using the free roam route san bernardino to barstow route. i have added loco and cars and thats it. all of the loco are for player use, i dont know how to do the al trains. then it starts off normal for a while, and like i said sometimes it lets me continue the route. for example it may let me continue the route from san bernardino to barstow with no message, but when i switch loco for the return trip, it will crash with the message.

Okay, it sounds like you edited the scenario not the route. Did you assign a driver to the locomotive you're trying to change to? Is it a part of your starting consist or a separate unit? There are several good tutorials for creating a freeroam scenario on this forum. You might try creating a new scenario from scratch.

Another possible cause for crashes in scenarios might be a memory overload, especially on 32bit computers that are near the min. system requirements of RW. Freight cars and locomotives are the most resource hungry items in the game, and using lots of them (and lots of different models) might cause the game to crash.

Especially when populating big yards like Barstow, try to avoid using too many different car models. Instead place some more colorful "eye candy" consists near where the player is expected to pass by, then fill (some of) the background sidings with long consists of only a few different car models. Seen from the cabview you won't notice a difference compared to having used tons of repaints to fill the distant yard tracks.

Another good choice for filling yards efficiently are my Low Poly Yard Filler Cars, available here in the file library or (a better detailed version) also part of the Portland Terminal route.
