Is Some Marias Pass Stock Locked?

Unread postby Ericmopar » Wed Jul 03, 2013 2:53 am

I've been on a mission to change car physics and ran into a stumbling block with the MP RTTX90 trailer flats. I've been able to update the .bin files for the Low Side Gondolas without a problem, but not the piggy back cars.
At first I thought I miss-typed something, so I went into my backup files and used them to overwrite the MP RTTX files. Everything loaded fine when I tested it, so I tried a second time to modify the mass in the RTTX90 bin.
Same thing happend, the "Toil and Trouble" scenario crashed again. (It gave me a multiple failures error)
I double checked, and there were no typos. I then manually typed in the correct OEM number of "100" for the mass, and everything loaded fine again.
This isn't affecting all cars for some reason.
This isn't a career scenario either.

I'm stumped

You didn't mention if your using Notepad to edit xml's. Try the same thing using Wordpad, I've found that some files (for whatever reason) won't work using Notepad.

I knew there was something I forgot to mention.
I'm using Railworks Tools.
I've never gotten Wordpad to work at all. I know others do it, so I must be doing something wrong. !*don-know!*

BTW, thanks for the sounds in the file library. *!greengrin!*

I've run into the same issue before when messing with physics. On the autoracks I couldn't set the prototypical values or any train longer than 15 cars would cause an integer overflow as soon as you selected the train to run. Its a game engine issue that can't be resolved without a total rewrite of the physics code and I'm not exactly holding my breath on that. You'll have to keep messing with it to find the balance point where you can make it work; it's tedious but you'll be happy with the results I have mine running as near to a simulation as I've had any game and I'm very happy with it but it took a lot of !*hp*!

Is the mass of a flat car really set at 100 tons? That seems a bit heavy to me by about 80 tons.

For the Marias Pass RTTX90 cars yes.
For the SD75 RTTX90 cars no, they were at 20 and I put them at about 25 for empty, 35 single load, 45 double load. That seemed to get something a little more realistic on Cajon pass. Realistic being the approximate number and type of engines vs number of trailer flats, vs grade and speed up that grade at what seems to be notch 6 through 8 when running Eastbound. That is based on my actual observations when visiting Cajon. I didn't think in terms of "tons" just what seemed to approximate real train performance vs load in that local.

I then tried to modify the Marias Pass trailer flats, but to no avail. One lets you modify it, one doesn't. **!!bang!!**

I set the flat car for Marias Pass to 25 and 45. I used Wordpad.

Just to insert a note of reality here, you do realize that the next time you request a cache verification all of these modifications will disappear?

Just use the Machinist's 2-click batch file to refresh the modifications, after you verify the cache. It works very nicely for me.

Yes, which is why I do periodic backups of the entire Assets and Contents folders.
I also never request cache verification anymore. It's never fixed a thing for me and in fact causes new problems a lot of the time, just like RSC's updates.

I can second PapaX's comments. Machinist has a great utility in 2-Clickz Batch. It is a little clunky to learn but it just uses old DOS command line key-words. Really Neat. It has saved my A$$ more times than I can count.

I purchased Marias Pass today with the summer sale ( !*YAAA*! ) and all I can say is wow what a beautiful route! I also can't leave things well enough alone and found something interesting when going through the bin's for the double stack cars: they're vastly different from the default Kuju cars and nearly identical to the ones I produced earlier for the Sherman Hill cars except for a few braking values.

Most notable are the car weight's being set identically to mine including having double stack cars that have proper weight increases when being loaded.

Just an observation !*cheers*!
