How do you make track turns extremely sharp. 90 degrees sharp.

Unread postby jpetersjr » Tue Jun 04, 2013 3:43 pm

Hello all, I would like to rebuild my older route NYC Division 1935, but do it like a trolley line from the vintage era. How can I make the track turn much sharper then the yard settings, because it's still turning way to wide for a street runner.

Once finished I'd like to be able to run the Doodlebug around it with 30's traffic running up and down the street next to the doodlebug.

How can I edit the track rule, or is there a similar track rule where I can make the turns almost 90 degrees sharp to be able to run the track off of the main street onto say side streets and wind it around the city.

It will probably not be a huge route, just mainly urban settings from a trolley prospective.

...Cheers...

Do you have Scalerail?
I made my own with scalerail.
Go into the 3DTrains\ScaleRail\RailNetwork\TrackRules folder. Find the SR_Default.bin and copy it and rename it something like SR_Default_Tightcurves.bin
Open the bin and find the lines.

<YardTrackLimits>
<iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
<MaxSpeedTolerance d:type="sUInt32">10</MaxSpeedTolerance>
<MinRadius d:type="sUInt32">111</MinRadius>
</iTrackRulesBlueprint-sCurvatureLimits>
</YardTrackLimits>

change <MinRadius d:type="sUInt32">111</MinRadius> to like <MinRadius d:type="sUInt32">55</MinRadius>

scroll down to this part

<DisplayName>
<Localisation-cUserLocalisedString>
<English d:type="cDeltaString">SR Default</English>

change >SR Default</English> to >SR Default Tight Curves</English>

Save changes. Now you will have a new track rule called SR Default Tight Curves. !*salute*!
If I missed something or it don't work, I can send you mine. *!!wink!!*

Easy:
  • Make a backup copy of the ScaleRail Track Rule.
  • Copy serz.exe found in the main Railworks folder to the ScaleRail TrackRules folder.
  • Drag and drop the ScaleRail BIN file on top of the serz.exe - it will then convert to XML format.
  • Using Wordpad, edit the XML file, and when finished, drag and drop the XML on top of the serz.exe - it will then convert back to BIN format.
Cheers!

Alright, I did this and I still can't get it to turn tight enough to make the street's turn.

You can try a different # here instead of 55. I don't know how tight of a turn the game will let you go.
<MinRadius d:type="sUInt32">55</MinRadius> I used 55 for my needs, so don't know if a smaller figure will help or not or even work....

EDIT:
I tried 25 and then 15. 25 is about as low as you can go. I didn't see any difference from 25 to 15.
Picture. I don't think any train could make those turns. !*roll-laugh*!

Doodlebug could, or a trolley, of course it wouldn't be a fast moving route, probably 25 through 30.

No luck at this, I think there's something I'm not doing right when trying to edit the track rule because I still can't make it take even a minor sharp curve, little alone a sharp curve for the tight turn onto a side street off of main street.

I attached it to your PM. Make sure you select YARD track when placing it.
I'll attach it here also for anyone who wishes to play with it.
Unzip and goes to...C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\railworks\Assets\3DTrains\ScaleRail\RailNetwork\TrackRules folder. Now you will have a new track rule. SR Default Tight Curves. Of coarse, you need to own ScaleRail to use this. *!!wink!!*
