P42 is not fast

Unread postby 5292nate » Wed May 15, 2013 8:53 am

Hey guys. Something is wrong internally with the P42DC form G-trax. Maxed out, on a 0.0% grade, pulling 5 coaches, the engine maxes out at 98.7 mph. It took between 15 and 20 minutes to reach that speed. What file do I have to change in order to make it do the full 110 allowed on the line?

Thanks

Nathan

Go back to the garage, change the engine and put a turbo on it. Be fast N furious!

AW COME ON GUYS! We know this is off. The P42's Top speed is 110mph! NOT 90! Where are these pretty little scripts now? I'm tired of getting off topic here. *!!thnx!!*

Actually its 120, not 110. I drove it on TestTrak. Amtrak limited that speed not to derail. I drove that sucker with 5 cars.

If you want more top end, go into its simulation file and change it to suit. Top speed will be there to be edited about quarter down the page. Be aware though if you want to get 120 mph out of it, you will have to put a top speed of 135 or so. If you put 120, it will never hit it unless going down a hill.

I hope you do realize that it would be practically impossible in the real world to get a P42DC up to 110mph while alone and in HEP mode while pulling passenger cars. The P32AC-DM can do it because it has AC traction motors and a separated HEP system. The P42DC's horsepower is cut from 4250 to about 2250hp when in HEP. That's not going to cut it for 110mph. You need to add another unit to the consist, modifying the blueprints would just be unrealistic. Why else do you think Amtrak needs two P42DC's on it's Michigan and Illinois routes to reach 110mph? -Not enough horsepower in one unit to do it.
