I ran a Steam Workshop scenario today that had the 2-8-0 pulling five passenger cars on the Portland Terminal. Before I could reach Rigby Yard, the loco "ran out of steam." I noticed that the steam pressure was 90psi and the coal/water levels were down to about 15%. Are HUD engineers supposed to be shoveling coal and pumping water? I read the manual, but there's not a lot of info on the HUD version.

Please don't take this as negative comments. I love the 2-8-0 but have never been a good steam locomotive engineer. Looking for help, not repairs.

That would be Elphaba's "Maine Excursion" scenario - very good one!

The HUD version can be run with or without automatic fireman enabled. If he's enabled, he should look after the fire and water for you, but if you disable him, then you have to be aware that manual firing works a bit differently in the HUD version. As the HUD version is meant to be operated from the F4 HUD, the best way to do it is using the corresponding icons on the F4 HUD itself.

The automatic fireman is very bad at keeping up a good head of steam, so to compensate for that, and assuming that players using the HUD version would probably also want to use the automatic fireman (I guessed that players firing manually would prefer the advanced/expert version), I doubled the tractive effort and horsepower of the HUD version.

It's not that big a deal Harry. Unless Mike's loco is different all you have to do is click on the firebox icon and then hit the 'r' key when the fire drops below 70%. close the door when it gets to about 72%. keep the water between 85% and 90% by just clicking on the icon and the little water drop appears. I run with the damper open and the blower shut off.
