SD40-2 Sounds

Hello everyone,

Has anyone been able to alias/install simer4's excellent sound pack to either Sherman Hill or Marias Pass? That old default horn they're still using sounds so unrealistic...

I've got them working in Donner Pass...but nothing else. For some reason, when I try aliasing the sounds, the loco is silent. I assumed this is because Marias Pass isnt loading the referenced Kuju paths. Adding 'Kuju' to the route's blueprint preload doesnt help though.

When I try the other method, I copy the sound files into the Marias Pass SD40-2 sound folder and then edit the paths in the bin and xml files of the sounds. When I try to save the files, I get the 'serz' not working correctly error (with the most current RW tools). I've tried running RWTools as an Admin, no change.

Ideas? Have they finally found a way to lock us out of making changes to the sounds?

You can still make sound changes, your just doing something wrong. I'd help you out, but I don't have a SD40 with Marias Pass route.

I suppose I said that a little wrong - I'm referring to the SD40-2 BNSF/BN pack, that is intended for use with Marias Pass.

Yeah...I cant figure this out. I've tried everything. Re-installing RWTools, Rebooting...odd. Never had this problem in the past.

Paste the engine bin here and I'll fix it for you. Hope everything is going good with you, Brandon.

Sometimes the serz that is with the game will work when RW Tools won't. I have had that happen.

Thank you, I'm really curious about this...I know I'm missing something simple. *!embar*! Everything is going well, I just havent had much time for RW lately. It seems my skills are slipping!

Is the Engine bin the right file to edit? Are you going to alias it to the Kuju installed sounds? I definitely prefer aliasing to keep the file size down. Below is what I tried doing (edited Horn and Engine Sound sections referencing the updated SD40-2 sounds)

EDIT: the four bin files are attached (unedited versions)

Do it the easy way. Just copy the sound bins from the engine sound folder you want to use and paste them into the engine sound folder you want to change. Rename to match if necessary.

If you have imer4's sounds in the kuju default. Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Audio\RailVehicles\Diesel\SD40.
Copy the SD40 Engine Sound.bin and paste that into the Assets\RSC\SD40BnsfPack01\Audio\RailVehicles\Diesel\SD40 or engine of choice. You don't even have to rename the sound bin for that one. Do the same thing for horns and whistles. You only need to copy/paste the bins of of what you want to use. Rename to match if ecessary.

Oh, hmm...I remember trying that in the past and having some sort of issue with it, but that was a long time ago. I guess I have just avoided the simple way to my detriment! But, BNSFDude's two zips work perfectly! Very nicely done! !*brav*! Love the horns.

Thanks everyone for the help! When I have time I'll look deeper into why it wasnt working when I tried to edit myself.

They were deleted because my Payware pack is now available. Just search Oovee EMD 40 Series on the forum here, and you'll find a link.
