As I approach the Guildford station, the signal indicates "RED". I checked the 2D map and it shows no trains on Platform 3 and Platform 5 so I set my route enter the station on Platform 5, the signal still shows "RED" even when the tracks are clear beyond the platform, same goes for Platform 3, the signal still shows "RED". What is wrong?

Did you get right up to the red? Did you try 'tabbing' past?
I'm at work so can't test to see if it applies in this case, but some UK signals have something called 'approach control'. Basically, it means that they stay on red until you approach them, and then they clear (in RW, when you pass over the Automatioc Warning System ramp on the track). They're used in situations where your speed needs to be low, and that may include a station which is why I'm wondering if Guildford has approach control signals.
If you're in free roam, have you changed the switches so that your path is set all the way through the station? If not, the signal may just be doing its job by saying 'you're not okay to go from me to the next signal'.
So in summary:
1. Check that your path is set all teh way through
2. Try 'tab' to see if the dispatcher gives you permission to pass the red
3. Wait till you go over the yellow AWS to see if it clears to a yellow.
Hope that helps
Paul

I pressed the TAB button when I approach and stop at the "RED" signal. The dispatcher responded by "Request to Signal Pass at Danger approved"
