Recent update

Unread postby Griphos » Thu Feb 07, 2013 5:17 pm

I had a very large update yesterday. Someone at UKTrainsim said it was an update to Donner. I've looked in my folders for files updated yesterday and there are indeed a large number of Donner files updated, but there was a huge number of other files updated as well, including a number of files that I've modified in one way or another (horn replacements, wagon sounds, etc). Does anyone know if RSC has adopted any of the sound mods our guys have come up with? It's suspicious to me that very many of the files I've modified with stuff from here were among those updated. Either there was a file verify as part of the update (and so it overwrote my changed files) or there are new changes to many of the assets that have been improved by freeware authors. It is SO frustrating that RSC doesn't publish what it is doing and changing in these updates!

All my default loco sounds reverted to RSC. Didn't check wagons, I just dumped my complete sound package over the top after the update. Seems it was more of a verify than improvement.

I haven't retried Donner yet, but, any update is just like a "verify" meaning all your third party add ons will be sent to the moon. I always keep a copy of all my third party stuff on my second hard drive so I can restore if needed. !!*ok*!!

I have gotten a lot of updates that didn't affect third party stuff at all. This one was quite strange in that it seemed to specifically target a lot of files that I've made changes to. I have backups of all those. I just don't know whether I should reinstall them all. Maybe some things in the new files were actually "updated" and maybe this was a verify and files I've changed were just changed back to the old (not updated) versions. Hard to know. I suspect the latter.

Well, I can tell you that nothing about the sounds was improved, if it was "updated" but they were definately re-installed. Take a look at the couplers... are they tighter?
